Beginner Questions, please help

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 6:38 am

Ok so I am a complete noob to the Elder Scrolls series. I started playing Skyrim last night and now have some questions. I finished the Jarl's last mission and he gave me Lydia. Now I talked to Lydia and then exited out of the conversation half-way through her talking and exited. Now she wasnt following me so I went back inside and I cant find her anymore?

1. Where can I find Lydia?

2. How can I map weapons to the D-pad on the Xbox?

3. Who do I talk to to buy a house in Whiterun?

4. Any good one-handed weapons in the beginning? The best I found was a mace that was 10 damage 11 weight, then the Imperial Sword

5. When buying weapons how can I know if they are one-handed or dual wield?

1. she should be at one of the jarls big tables eating
2. I think you use the Y button to select favorites
3. the jarls steward
4. go into a dungeon and find one that question is to broad
5. only swords, maces, and war axes are one handed everything else is two hand

Most of these questions are answered by actually playing the game. As for Lydia, she should be in your house. I also noticed that if you talk to her and don't accept her as a follower she wanders through Whiterun untill you accept and release her. After that she will always be in your house.

1. Wandering around Dragons Reach (Basically the Jarl's place if you don't currently own a house)
3. The Steward once Bulgruff gives you the okay to purchase property in Whiterun.
4. Anything Steel is perfectly acceptable in the beginning.
5. Any one-handed weapon can be Dual wielded, they generally tell you on the description of the weapon if it's One-handed or Two-handed.

1-4 have been covered.

5. An easy way to tell if the weapon is 1H or 2H is the picture of it. If it's straight up, its 1H, if it's angled, its 2H.

Now go have fun!!

2. To add hotkeys for xbox open the favorites by pressing up then select the weapon you want and hold either left or right,a 1 or 2 will appear next to it.then just click left or right in game to select.

Hey amishbr07,
  • 1)Lydia should appear at some point, i usually find her during daytime next to the door at Dragonsreach(if you own a house she might be there though)
  • 2)I think you need to open your favorites, and hold the right or left button on the D-pad to map it.If its maped, the number 1 or 2 should appear next to your weapon on your favorites.I play with a gamepad on pc but it should be the same.I think that you can only map 2 weapons\spells though.
  • 3)If you do 1-2 more quests for the Jarl he says that you can buy property from the steward
  • 4)I used Ancient Nord weapons at the start because the have nice damage plus they look cool. You can them at Bleak Fall Barrow.
Keep in mind that 1H weapons weight like : Swords
  • 5) If by dual wield you mean 2 handed , then i guess you can check the weight ,they should be much heavier than 1h weapons. Also, 2H weapons usually have names have names like Greatsword, Hammer etc
  • Hope i helped
