Bookcase Key?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 9:22 am

Is there a bookcase key for the Arcaneum? I've always wanted one to see the rare books because I collect rare books in my house. If there is not a key, can someone tell me where I can get rare books?

I do not think there is a key for the locked bookcases (though note that not all bookcases are locked). Check with Urag gro-Shub every couple of days - he updates his inventory regularly, and always seems to have a book or two that I don't have (books that I haven't found anywhere else in my travels).

There are books that are specific to quests, as well as books and journals throughout Skyrim in various specific locations (dungeons, etc.). A few examples:

There are many others found throughout Skyrim - you just have to explore and you'll stumble across them...

I'm surprised that Urag doesn't have the rarest of them all:

"The Lusty Argonian Maid" :D

If you're on pc just use the console to unlock it. He won't give you a key for it, and I don't think it even exists.

Well, that one comes in two volumes. Volume 1 is occasionally carried by Urag, and there's one in a stack in the Arcanaeum.

The second volume is very hard to find and can only be found in specific locations.

Are people really playing this game collecting books? That's some commitment.

Taking up an in-game 'hobby' like this adds to the life of the game, IMO. It gives a reason to continue adventuring, even after the various questlines have been completed.

Well, Urag just sold me volume 2, so there's that.

Damn skippy I am.

I did not do this though in Oblivion, I spent a large amount of time finding every Nirnroot (which I did). Since the musical plants come back, I am going to collect every book, even if my eyes go cross-eyed and I pass out.

It is called RPing, immersion, and interest in the lore. Also could depend on what type of character you are playing. It isn't all run and gun questlines.

I did this in Morrowind and Oblivion, but it wasn't as fun in Oblivion since placing them on shelves was too difficult. In Morrowind, there was a mod for placing books - I turned my house in Solstheim into a library with every book in the game.

Can't wait for the CK so I can create a library of my own.
