Easiest place to catch Vampirism?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 8:42 am

So far I've really only discovered Bloodlet Throne. I've heard there's way more then that.. and are there any simple/small dungeons one could catch it easily?

I just did the contract for the DB to kill the Vampire Hern in Half-Moon Mill. I killed him.. then let his Wife repeatedly stab me with her Iron Dagger. I did this for a good half hour almost and nothing ever popped up.

Any suggestions?

Haemar's Shame. Turn the difficulty down to Novice, take off all your armor and let the Vampires have at you until you contract it. Also, if your Standing STone is The Lord, I'd change it to some other sort of stone that doesn't offer magic resistance. I had three vampires wailing on me for 20 minutes in the manner I described and I didn't contract it. Went back out, just chose The Thief stone since it was close, went back, and got it within a couple minutes.

Also, when they use their Vampiric Drain ability, it apparently is a better way for you to contract the illness than if they just hit you a lot. Also, it's obvious but worth mentioning that Vampire Thralls can't spread the disease.

Every time I do the Morthal quest I catch it right away.

I could never get Hern or Hert to do Vampiric Drain on me.

Indeed, any vampire lair will do. I just go to Haemar's Shame because I usually have it "discovered" on my map from my quest to Riften from RIverwood. It's not far from Helgen, so it's a short run.

And Hern and Hert don't seem to use Vampiric Drain. Far as I know, there's no specific reason given for this, but I thought about it and figured it was to keep up appearances as mill workers. May as well not use it ever just in case, but it doesn't really explain why they won't use it when you show up to murder Hern.

I caught it fighting the vamps at Wolf Queens Tomb, doing the quest from Firebeard in Solitude. There aren't a lot of them, but they are all quite strong.

Yeeeah, the ones in Potemba's Catacombs are really strong. On my current save when I went to Haemar's Shame to contract vampirism, the second vampire in was a Volkihar Vampire. Even on Novice, it kicked the hell out of me. Sooo it's worth it to bring some potions when you dive into a vampire lair with the hopes of contracting the disease.

I go to the cave southwest of Whiterun called Broken Fang Cave, I think that is what it is called. Easy place to find and as soon as you walk in there are some vampires.

It's funny cause I just went to the place in my OP, Bloodlet Throne. I did what others mentioned: Took all my armor off, switched from The Lord Stone to the Thief. And cranked it down to Novice.

I was just SO surprised how quick it was.. like INSTANT. Soon as I went in and fought the 1st 2 Vampires (Thrall, and another) the other one used the Drain on me and BOOM blink of an eye caught it.

Now I just gotta sleep right?

The easiest way is to keep them reapplying their drain spell on you.

Edit: To clarify, that is, causing them to break the spell and use it again. I guess this is possible by moving out of spell range.

I think you can only contract the disease now when they use the drain spell, not when they're just touching you in a fight. So, when I wanted to get the disease once, I went into Haemar's Shame and teased the first vampire by backing off from her all the time, so that she could drain me all the time instead of being distracted by attacking me. Worked very well and very fast in about a minute or so.

On another character, I had just hit level 2 and was on my way to Anise's Cabin, when two vampires (and a zombified bunny, of all things) randomly encountered me. All I could do was slide down a few cliffs and then I sat there, wide-eyed and somewhat scared. One of them spotted me from the top of the cliffs and initiated the draining, and kapoof, I had the disease. That was NOT what I had in mind for this character at all.

Oh yeah, Hippnotic: You don't have to sleep, you can just walk around and keep adventuring. Just don't touch any shrine of a divine and don't quaff any potion of cure disease and don't eat any ingredient with "cure disease" as the first effect. In 72 hours, you'll be a full-fledged vampire, no matter if you sleep through these 72 hours or not.
