Meeting of the Panicked Thieves

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:39 pm

I don't know if this is happening in anyone else's game, but I thought this was very funny.

After restoring the Thieves Guild to prominence, I was wandering around Riften after a huge loot haul. So I'm trying to sell all of my stuff, but the Blacksmith is missing. I checked the game time, and it was around 5pm, so I figured that the blacksmith was having dinner. I go into the Blacksmith Shop and there's the Blacksmith, cooking at the fireplace, but there's also three random thieves in there.

As soon as I entered, the three thieves all drew daggers but ran around as if they had no idea what to do. I drew my weapons, but they ignored me and ran downstairs into the basemant (mind you, the blacksmith is so far completely oblivious to the thieves being there).

So I got curious to see if maybe there was a second entrance to the shop in the basemant. I went into Sneak mode, and slowly crept down the stairs. To my surprise there were four additional thieves already in the basemant! All had daggers drawn like the City Guard had sniffed them out, but they just ran around down in the basemant in a tangled mess. This made me chuckle.

I watched them for a couple of minutes to see what they'd do.

none of them ever made a break for the door, and the city guard never burst in to take care of the "filthy thieves". They just kept running around like they had forgotten where they were. So I went further into the basemant and performed a Sneak attack on one of them. I was well in view of the others as I did this, but they just kept running around like panicked sheep.

This made me actually laugh.

Every time I fire up my game/return to Riften, I always check the Blacksmith shop now. For the last 10 hours of play time, they're still there. They're still running. They still have no idea what they're doing.

Makes me laugh every time.

Has anyone else experienced this yet?

For whatever reason, the random thief-in-the-night in Riften will be discovered, chased by everyone nearby, and run into some building to escape - and not be followed.
I'm surprised that the most recent spawn doesn't automatically cause the previous to vanish (the game designers certainly made sure you are untroubled by too many dead
bodies after any of the massive take-over-the-fort fights), but I guess this doesn't count for causing undue lag.

Yes, I've found them in with the smith and other places, but never this many. You win the fishystick.

Fishy stick!!!!

I think it's because the thieves ran into the building, and the guards never killed them that they don't go away. But the glitch then (one of them) would have to be that the next night or so, the game spawns a new thief who then runs into the smithy to escape the guards, etc., etc....

Thus I have cold, frosty Thief six pack down in that basemant. lol

So you don't kill them, right? You just check on them and leave? I'm gonna' check right now.

Edit:
That's f-ing hilarious. There are 3 running around in Balimund's house.

It happens to me all the time. Thieves spawn only from 8 p.m. to 8.a.m so one solution is to never venture into riften during the night hours. I had to clear the Riften blacksmith's house from 5 or something thieves at once.

I had two of them in Riverwood Trader's recently. Lucan Valerius and Camilla just ignored them. I chased them up and down the stairs for a while and then left them alone.

In my current game, one of them is in Helga's Bunkhouse.

LOL yes, happens all the time! Sometimes, at night, you can see a sneak thief outside the Blacksmith shop, creeping around as if to break in. I guess some of these thieves actually make it into the shop, but never come back out. I found a few running around inside the shop. I usually just kill them, since Riften is MY TURF! LOL and they usually have good loot on them. hahahahahahaha

This is hilarious! Too bad I usually find dead thieves, or almost-dead thieves (health low, being chased by the half of Riften). I did encounter a non-hostile one who just walked around Riverwood. He occasionally went into sneak mode but then snapped out of it and continued walking.

It's awesome. I checked on them again last night, and I figured that they've been in there for awhile... so I left them some mead, bread, and cheese.

I'm a generous Guild Master. lmao

I saw one in Riverwood, but when I talked to him he went hostile. :P

That's outstanding! lol

You did attach the little poo-catcher to its rear though, right? Otherwise that would be a crap-load of issues for the maid...

Too bad you can't take their armor. Then it'd be worth slaughtering the whole lot. But as it stands most of those guys have lame things like candlestick holders and a lockpick on them. Once in a while you find an amethyst but that's about it. I guess it be good toward points for whatever combat skill you use. I'm gonna check that out. I need to get my archery skill up.

I wish you could use the candlesticks to light up areas (similar to torches). The Ragged Flagon could use much better lighting.

As an aside, I tried to spruce up the Thieves' Guild more and more as time has gone on. I took out all the tankards and replaced them with silver goblets and the like. Brynolf may not like to throw coin around, but I've got over 150k just lying around.

Course, I'd be willing to spend all of that just to be able to get unenchanted faction armor and improve my Nightingale Blade.

I waited so long to do Dampened Spirits that I have over 1000 Honningbrew Mead bottles in my house in Whiterun. I also have a bunch of skooma in the Cistern (only for special occasions I swear). I also should start stocking Black-Briar Reserve there too...

But seriously, the hard times are over. We have a hold on every major Hold in Skyrim, why shouldn't we start living large?

:o Wow. I thought I was ballin' because I have around 100.

There's still one barrel in the Honningbrew Meadery that's labeled: "Honningbrew Mead Barrel". :P Now IDK if it respawns with Honningbrew Mead if you take the 4 bottles out, though.
