$30 Guaranteed Trade- In at Gamestop

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:26 am

so with a $30 Guaranteed Trade- In at Gamestop Ive decided to throw this game at them and wait until Bethesda releases there GOTY Edition in a couple years. i figured it wont be anymore money as the DLC will likely cost about another 40-50$ to buy from the Playstation Store so with the 30$ I didn't get back i figure to by the GOTY Edition for 50$ it would be a wash. Hopefully the extra development time will do the game some good. After New Vegas and then Skyrim I've learned my lesson with Bethesda and will now wait to purchase their products and no amount of preorder crap can make up for the level of quality in a game. now back to Fallout 3 as i have never had any issues with this game, and maybe some saints row the third.

how about you guys, keep the game or hold on and download DLC to an already broken game? if New Vegas is any indication DLC wont make the situation any better....

Already have it, have it for PC, meaning no refunds and I get mods.

I think I'll keep it.

I don't care how much they offer me, Gamestop is not getting my Skyrim. I don't think I've ever seen them make an offer that high before, have they? That's a lot and there's a lot of copies out there too.

typically on highly anticipated games it will be a $30 trade in for the first couple months. the way i see it i spent 65$ to get the game so if i get 30$ back then i'm at 35$ so after DLC i would be up to 85 -90$ after i get the GOTY where if i kept the game and just downloaded the DLC i would be around 110$ total so it will be cheaper in the long run. plus all the patches and DLC will be on a single disk plus whatever other patches they slip into the GOTY Edition. right now i cant play the game due to crashes, freezing and lag not to mention the broken quests. i want to start a new character after the game is fixed which pry wont be until the GOTH edition anyways.

I don't know why people keep complaining about New Vegas. That game ran flawlessly for me, as did Morrowind, Oblivion, FO 3, NV and now Skyrim.

Go ahead, trade yours in for something inferior. I'll keep my PC modded Skyrim.

I'll keep Skyrim.

Maybe if I bought something like COD: MW3, which I believe they are also offering a $30 in-store credit for, then that would be something for ME to return.

But I actually play Skyrim, have had no problems thus far, and may even buy the GOTY version too...after it goes down by $40.

They are offering a $30 return to the customer, because Beth is giving them $60 credit... SO they are using the customers to make another $30 from your loss, making more money again. (They are ripping you off.)

They made $30 selling you the game the first time... and now they are making another $30 when you return it, from the refund. (Since they are only giving you half.)

Doesn't matter who you got the game from... They still get the credit. They are not only taking back their own original-sale games. (They have done this before. They just are not calling it a refund, or you would expect the other $30, the full $60, back too. Then they would make $0 on the "refund".)

Bad, idea is bad.

Remember, the game still doesn't work for a lot of people... so it is not "all bad"... This makes it only a $30 loss for them, not a $60 loss, with HOPE that the game will work in the future, before they get bored of it. If they are not already bored of it, now.

Besides... In a few weeks/months, it will be 50% - 75% off, online... And possibly fixed at that time... So it is a no-loss situation.

The problem, besides code... is the fact that all PS3's and X-Box 360's are not all the same hardware inside. There are like seven versions of each. The game runs on one version, flawlessly, but another version, it borks... (Like how PC's work.) That happens when you use a "Generic converter", instead of actually programming it for each platform. That is like expecting javascript or HTML to output the same thing, on every computer, just because you used generic code.

It is the best thing Beth can do, to remove the hate from the public... If you were stuck with the broken game, the hate rolls-on... refund them... and apologize for uncontrollable oversight, and the hate disappears and fades away. (But GS is taking advantage of the situation, and the customers, again, as usual...)

I won't be doing this as I'll be keeping my Skyrim for a very long time, but how is Gamestop ripping everyone off. If both parties are satisfied, I see no reason for complaints. It only makes sense to trade and buy used games if you play a large quantity of games or your gaming cash is in short supply, as mine is. My wife keeps a tight reign on the wallet when it comes to items that are not of need. So when I can sell a game back that I'm done with and then can use that money to purchase more games, I don't see an issue with it. I've doubled the number of games I've been able to buy due to deals like this. A win for me and the company.

Unless your talking about corporate greed... then you all are sooooooooooooooo right. Down with them. They svck.

The reason why it is a "rip off" is because they are getting $60 in credit from Bethesda per game which is really supposed to go towards refunds for dissatisfied customers. Instead they do the $30 buy back, which gives them a net gain of $90 (Initial sale for $60, paying $30 to get the game back, credit for $60 so 60-30+60=90). Even in cases where they didn't make the initial sell they still make $30

OP talks about a broken game, yet I've experienced zero glitches or bugs, and I say that with my hand on the Bible. Absolutely zero.

Gross exaggeration does not make your OP any more believable. Sorry, but I'm just not buying this "THE GAME IS SO BROKEN MUST MAKE A THREAD ABOUT HOW MUCH MONEY IM GETTING FOR IT" crap.

I'll admit the PS3 lag issue is a downfall. But if you're not one of the unlucky ones on the PS3, just shut up with this nonsense. No one is taking you seriously. The game is not broken.

Who is getting ripped off?

Bethesda is making their money.
The customer is getting money back for a game they are done with/don't want anymore.
Gamestop makes money. They make most of their money on used games, just like university book stores make most of their money on used books.(I used to work for one.)

If any one party was getting ripped off, then the whole system would not exist because one of the parties would not be a part of it.

i.e. If customers were getting ripped off then they wouldn't be buying and selling used games which is very popular. It's not a rip off just because Gamestop is making a lot of money. They don't net $60 on the original sale of the game.

Glad you got a "refund" (insofar as Gamestop is not actually giving you money, just trade-in credit) but this is really about your relationship with your retailer, not really about Skyrim the game. Sorry you didn't like it. I am still enjoying the hell out of it, still finding new things 200+ hours in.
