If I had the gold, I trained. For me Restoration was the slowest to grow so training helped.

Welcome, fellow gamer.

I do a bit of both. I find that some skills don't grow as quickly as I like sometimes, so I try to train them when I feel the need. I do this most often with armor skill and fighting skill. When I'm in a safe situation, I let myself get hit by an animal or weaker bandits while I heal myself to buff up the armor skill and block skill.

Doing this kind of thing is called grinding. I think most people do it but to different degree. Some people avoid it altogether because it's boring and you can and level up just fine without grinding. Other people think they are going to be too weak if they don't this.

I pay for training with skills that don't go up as quickly as I want like archery and restoration.
I grind alchemy and enchanting.
Everything else I just let increase naturally.

Welcome, and here's your http://images.uesp.net/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg. On my first character, I always seem to ignore training so that I can experience as much as I can.
With my next characters I'll go ahead and train just to speed things up.

I aim to buy 5 levels of a hard to raise skill every level from a trainer, I feel like I've missed out if I don't. It's like 400 free skill books if you pickpocket your gold back. I only ever grind if I can do it along side normal adventuring- I'll never sneak attack greybeards over and over again or just stand there getting hit by a mudcrab but I'll sort of grind some skills, like casting muffle when I'm going somewhere and there's nothing else to do with my magicka, detect life while going from shop to shop in a city, using left over ingredients after an alchemy session to create useless but expensive multi effect potions, etc.

I bought a few trainings in my play, but it felt like I just bought my way out of the fun it would've been to earn those level ups on my own through actually playing. Certain ones like smithing training though; I did pay for that and enjoyed it, because making a bunch of gear to just turn around and sell it didn't seem like a fun time.

I havent paid for any training yet. I probably should have looked into training smithing or enchanting, though, since I have severly neglected using them.

I never pay for training. The only skills I grind are Alchemy and Enchanting, because otherwise it would take forever to raise them to a decent level. All others grow naturally.

Mostly I just let the skills level up naturally.
However if a major combat skill starts to fall behind I will buy training in it.
By major combat skill I mean if I'm an archer and my archery skill isn't keeping pace with my sneak skill I will then buy training in archery.
For the most part this isn't a big problem as it can also be fixed by just getting a different standing stone, like going from the thief stone to the warrior stone for a while.

Well i did grind illusion so i could get frenzy and invisibility to help me out since im building a mage... As i spend a lot in Magick and few in Health almost all the time i can get killed in one hit...
I was afraid i would ruin up the fun by doing it, but it turns im acctually having a lot of fun playing with the illusion support. Btw, i never tought Illusion would be so good to play with, i used to completly ignore it!

Surprisingly, little to no mistakes in english except that you generally capitalize the e in English.

Some you can do with both lol

I don’t grind or train. I like the lower levels best, so I’m not in a hurry to get past them. I do sometimes switch Standing Stones to keep lesser used skills from falling behind. In that case training would be a good way to even things out even more quickly. I just haven’t needed it yet.
