Bored with Skyrim

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 7:17 pm

Not sure if I should post this here or not but, oh well.

In the last month or more I've become steadily more bored with Skyrim. I'm not really sure why this is. One factor might be a few unfixed bugs I've come across. The thing is I've done all quests and I've been everywhere there is to go. Most of my skills are at 100. When I try to play Skyrim I'm just not sure what to do, so I end up doing a few side quests before getting bored and turning my ps3 off.

I was thinking about starting over again. Would this make much of a difference? Or would it be a waste of time and I should just stop playing it?

I would say that it sounds to me like you've done everything in the game.

I'd recommend getting Oblivion (or even Morrowind, if you can dig up an X-box or an older PC using Windoze XP/ME/98)

Eh? you can't run Morrowind on win7? and I was hoping to start playing morrowind after I complete all Oblivion Guild guests. Is it heavy? perhaps I can run it in vm?

The compatability feature says you can emulate it but the drivers and DX is unknown to older games makeing them problematic. 1st try running them in an older combatability then what they recomend. Otherwise get an older comouter [Xp's compatability system worked well , but then that computer had older vid cards.] I managed to get Morrowind to start on Win 7 64, but it didn't like it 1 bit. Must be the dual CPU thing like Axis & Allies can't handle dual core. Try setting the prority to 1 proccessor.useually the second 1.

PS: When ever you start to get board with a game stop playing it and switch to something compleatly different. After a while you will want to go back and spend a little time in the old frosty mountains again.

i'd recommend trying a different game... there are plenty of good ones out there. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was designed with the guy in charge of Morrowind and Oblivion and is pretty entertaining (try the demo).

i took a 2 month break from skyrim after getting bored/fed up with bugs (around 1.3 release) and after coming back (post 1.4) and starting a new character it felt new and fun again.

Morrowind and Oblivion run very nicely on Windows Vista or 7, as long as they are installed outside of Program Files and UAC.
If you are on a PC, adding mods can make replaying different and interesting again.

I've been thinking of starting a new game and just doing side quests for the longest time ever ~ then when I've built myself up to a high level going mad on all the main quests

I've felt a bit lost for something to do since I did the whole civil war bit ~ I did enjoy it though

...The thing is I've done all quests and I've been everywhere there is to go. Most of my skills are at 100...

First and foremost, avoid having one character who does everything.
I always run 4 different builds . Each has a purpose and each is enjoyable for different reasons. Though no one character will do and see everything, I get to experience the entire game through each.
Note: These are base types, though not locked in to hamper oneself:

1. Male Nord Tracker/Cartographer. He lives off the land and doesn't do a single quest. Not one. Wears Light Armour and wields a 1H Axe and Bow. He also utilizes a torch for blocking. Simply roleplaying as a bystander in the province, occasionally helping a local met on the roads, charting the province as he goes. Has a penchant for freeing any and all prisoners seen, then smiting the escorts, no matter who. LOVE that guy.

2. Male Bosmer Rascal/Fisherman. He's my rogue type, wearing only clothing and dual-wielding daggers. Good at heart but can't keep his mits off all those shiny baubles strewn about the world.
*Note: He recently drowned under the ice...I don't want to talk about it*

3. Female Breton Seeker/Healer. Working her way around the Holds, studiously making her own charts of ingredient locales. She's my Mage build focusing on Restoration and Alchemy. With only enchanted robes and clothing, a dagger rests on the hip for times when those with ill-intent come too close.

4. Female Redguard Vindictor. This lass has a chip the size of Ysgramor on her shoulder. She's working the main storyline with nary a minute to stop and take names. My tank build, but only wearing Steel Plate and wielding a 2H blade. She'll most likely join the Companions at some point. Undecided on that.

It's YOUR game, so play it as you choose. I choose to limit my characters based on questlines.
Sparse out the duties and interests and you'll always have a character ready to suit your current mood.
One person's opinion.

My experience was that mods were impossible to control. I could NOT toggle them on or off at will on a Win7 box (perhaps due to installed location in Program Files).

I was having this problem too for a while. I stopped playing for a bit but now Im starting to slowly get back into it. Try another build, that might do it.

Switch to a different game for a while and try coming back with a fresh char. Those quests and locations you are bored with now will feel fresher after memory fades them a bit.

Or maybe try a just for fun character like the Nord Giant Streaker. After being humiliated at chickening out of a childhood bet he has vowed to run naked through every giant camp in Skyrim !
