Best build for a battlemage?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 6:35 pm

With the new patch out for consoles, I'm going to start a third character. I want to build a battle mage and wondering which perks to choose from. Any ideas?

First, you should decide on your armor type. Heavy if you think you plan on going straight into battle, Light if you want to be swift and send some attacks from the shadows.
Choose the necessary perks, like the armor rating bonus.
Instead, focus some more perks on magic. It's best to incorporate more schools, but Destruction and Conjuration should be your prime. Reduce the magicka cost for a start. Invest in One-Handed, but instead of using plain weapons, conjure your own!
That way you can level up two skills in battle. If you decide to do that, invest in the bound weapons side of the Conjuration tree.

Thanks but I need to know what exact perks to choose? There are only 81 perks you can choose and not enough. I'm using a perk calculator now and I'm already over budget and I haven't gotten to enchanting yet.

What about your speech and alchemy?

They're not essential, but IIRC I put some rank perks into Alchemy and got the investor perk. Getting a spouse & enchanting makes a massive difference in raising Speech, because you have access to a massive amount of gems and can get rid of all your junk. I also didn't use any Conjuration or Alteration throughout the game.

I would say, go for illusion... Perks to increase Fury and Calm can help a lot with stronger creatures... if ur playing master.
Invisibility also helps a lot if u plan to go sneaking around!

My battlemage isn't as far along as Joe's,

But I went along some different lines

Distruction: Fire 2/2, shock 2/2 no frost, dual cast ( will go with the augmented fire and shock when he get's their )

Conjuration: Summoner, automancy, mystic binding, dual casting (soul stealer, when he get's their) ( til he finished the Civilwar he's used an Imperial sword will now switch to a bound sword )

Heavy armor: 3/5 will get 5/5 but that's it

1h : 2/5 will get all 5

Restoration : bottom 2 perk's right now, will get more.

Thinking about doing some Illusion, but haven't as of yet

Enchanting: Corpus enchanter ( he isn't that far along yet )

Smithing: will go up to Deadric armor ( be the only character so far that I have)

Staff: , Staff of chain lighting, Sanguine Rose.

Steed stone

Breton

Blades armor at the moment ( I like the way it looks)

I hadn't really planned on getting into the speech tree, I'll have to think on that one.

Edit:Once I have him the way I want, I may may not use perk point's on different thing's, I had a pure warrior with 15 unused perk's. I won't use them just to use them

Battlemages in the past TES games tends to use: Heavy Armor, 1-Hand Blades, Destruction, Restoration, Alteration, and Conjuration Magic.

So.. Focus your perks on those skills and use Blade weapons like Swords and Daggers... Hm.. Wait.. I might be wrong.. Battlemages do use Axes as well.
