I've read that there are glitches you can use to spare Paarthurnax and still be able to take your Blades on dragon hunts. Does anybody know one?

Not that I heard of. Unfortunately I went against my gut and killed him for the very idea of having my own clan of dragon warriors.

Yeah I figured having a clan of dragon hunters was worth killing him for. The only loss to killing him is losing the ability to get free word wall locations, which is pointless anyway.

Why do you need dragon hunters? By the time you get to that point, you should be able to slaughter just about anything you come up against....

PC or Console?

If on PC check the steam work shop, there's a mod for that. You can be friends with both the grey beards and the blades ~~~
