Saves need to be sorted by character...

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 7:09 pm

The save list is one big jumbled mess of autosaves, multiple characters and a quicksave.

My friend (who's new to the game) overwrote my newest save. I have a save from about 10 levels before but the game should have each created character under a seperate section to distinguish between them.

I don't think "console port" is a reason for this (as it is for many other issues) as I believe even console games have had game saves for each character seperated instead of one big list of them all mashed together.

open console with "`" type: save charactername

I know what you mean, I mean people so much complained about the savegame system in Oblivion..yet here we have the EXACT same one AGAIN. But at least there is that save command. I think a mod will com out to fix it.

Yep...scrolling through the saves until you find the one you want is a bummer. But in the time it takes to open the console and type the command, I can find what I am looking for. This is only because I got in the habit of deleting old saves when I played Oblivion. My saves list never gets really long.

I have a save from about 10 levels before

Bad.

Search for "save manager" on SkyrimNexus. There's a bunch of them.

If you are on a PC, you don't even need mods. Just open the folder where your characters are saved, make a sub folder with the character's name or what have you and put characters you aren't currently playing and all their auto and quick saves in it. Just keep the character you are currently playing in the main folder. You can even switch on the fly by tabbing out of the game, moving your current character into it's save folder, and pulling the files for the character you want to play out of their folder into the main save folder.

Yes every new game character should have there own page dedicated to that characters saves. I would like to know the technical reasons as to why this can't be done on the likes of consoles.

Seems like a pain in the ass when it would take minimal effort to incorporate into the game, proven by the mods already available for it on PC.

There are none, although many consoles have less space then PC, so having their own quicksaves and autosaves might take up too much space.

there is no technical reason. they were just lazy. the really annoying part is that they know that most people are going to have more than one character.

I don't really have that many different characters so it's never been a problem for me, but yeah I can see why that would be a better way to do it. I believe Dragon Age Origins does it by character, I remember going to that save sysytem from Oblivion's was a very nice change!

Wait till you have a friend that wants to try this kick ass game but is new to it and how the saves go. Oops, there goes about 30+ hours of game time when he overwrites a save he could have sworn he clicked his not yours. ;)
