Help with hjerim

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 1:02 pm

I had started Blood on the Ice, and it is glitched, and I can't find Viola, so I was not able to obtain the Windhelm house that way. But then I did the Stormcloak quest, and I was given the option to buy the house. But now I don't get the option to decorate it or buy the upgrades from the steward. I bought the house, and it's empty except fot the mess. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

About Viola, do you have the "Beware The Butcher" pamphlet? You can find some in Hjerim, and they are required for her quest dialogue to work. After taking it, just follow the quest marker ("Follow up on the clues from Hjerim") to her.

I have the pamphlets, but the quest markerl lead to a spot on the outside of Candlehearth Hall and she is nowhere to be found. I have looked everywhere, including her house. That quest is unfinishable for theis character. I just don't know why I'm not getting the decorate options now that I have purchased the house.

Really weird bug. I thought the latest patch fixed this quest. I haven't had it happen before, Viola was usually in her house or walking around. I see her frequently in the Gray Quarter so why not look there? (if you haven't yet)
And the options for decoration are normally not available. Probably because decoration of, for example the living room, would remove some quest items.

That's probably it. I have removed the evidence, but I think because I started that quest, I will not be able to decorate the house. It IS a known bug that she can disappear, and it may have been fixed, but this character already had the glitch, so I would have to do it with a new character.

Thanks for hour help, though.

Sorry to hi jack this thread but do you need to start the civil war quests to be able to buy this house. I have finished blood on the ice quest but never seem to get the option to buy the house. I have helped all the people around the city with their mini quests but never get the option to buy. Im on 360 so unable to mod it

I have problems with this Blood and Ice also, got the house and fitted it out, but could not kill the killer, the companion did this in the end, but i still have the bones and blood all over the place just about to give up with this game. Got back to my other house and the dressed dummy was off the platforme and standing in the door way with his back to me fully dressed as an forsworn, finding it very hard to kill some enemies on easy setting

There's a bug that when you buy I think the bedroom furniture you lose the option to clean up the crime scene. So you need pay to clean it up first. As to the moving dummy no clue that bug doesn't exist on the ps3 so far as I know.

Blood on the Ice causes a LOT of problems with decorating/buying Hjerim if you buy it before the quests completes, most of which don't have effective work-arounds on 360/PS3. On PC you can maybe poke and prod at the console, but I don't think it'd let you un-buy the house.

Follow up with the steward at the palace after giving viola the pamphlets and journal. It doesn't say to do this but I followed up with him and it finished the quest and was able to upgrade the house.

The problem is...Viola does not exist. I have looked everywhere, day and night. She is nowhere.

Check with the steward and see what you can get accomplished.

OP, PC or xbox/ps3? If you're on PC, this is easily fixed with console commands

I appreciate it, but I'm on PS3. Looks like I'll have to save this house for my next character!

As an aside: I cleaned up the mess, bought some of the room upgrades, but dig this: if you do not upgrade the Alchemy & enchanting station, you'll get that sweet hidden room being just empty save for one shelf. I already have all my alchemy & enchanting stuff in another home. Its perfect for putting whatever stuff you want in there on the floor, I have a huge pile of maybe 200 skulls that I've just collected along the way as well as human flesh, hearts and deadra hearts on the shelf.
