New Mage Character on the PC.

Greetings, first post from a long time lurker who's had the game since release. I'm looking to start a new mage character and I'm confused on how to achieve what I want. I would like the character to be a form of "necro mage" which is a term I've seen thrown around here. I'd like to focus on Necromancy and be well equipped in destruction as well. I've downloaded Midas Magic and the Necromancy II mod but where should I begin. Should I focus on mage robes or wear light arrmor. I plan to take Enchanting and Alchemy to 100 as well. I'm just all over the damn place with this character. When it comes to make Rogues I know what to do but I'm so lost here. I have a 28 Destro mage who using the spells from Midas, particularly the meteor spells and she just steam rolls anything via meteor spam. I'd like a bit more of a challenge. Any ideas and info would be greatly appreciated.

"Necromage" is actually a term for an exploit involving becoming a vampire, and then taking the Necromage perk under Restoration. Once you have Necromage, any "active effects" you acquire (except for existing gear,) and any gear you create, will be buffed by Necromage - because as a vampire, you count as undead and therefore "affected" by the perk.

As for becoming a necromancer:
1. Conjuration (necromancy branch) is obvious.
2. Consider illusion. It's very flavourful to turn your enemies against each other, then pick up their corpses with necro spells and make them fight each other again! :P
3. Robes will be more exciting but quite dangerous, as you'd have minimal defences without going into Alteration. Armour is safer, and allows you to fall back on melee or archery in a pinch without getting munched.

I HIGHLY recommend looking at the various Destruction mods, and using one. Probably get a magicka regen mod, as well.

I would say use illusion ... it helps a lot... and since u plan to go enchanting 100, light armor will be a good choise since u can make some pretty good equip with fortify magick skills!

How about not using that mod!? With the normal destruction spells you will not be steamrolling I can tell you that. I have a pure destruction mage and I was never over powerfull untill I got the three master spells and eaven then it was kinda tricky cuz they take so long to charge up.
