Save games in seperate character slots

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 8:58 pm

Why oh why just one huge muddled up game save directory?

Why can't each character have there own folder and be loaded seperately?

seems dumb!

Either that or let us name our saves. Then we can organize them anyway we want to.

I agree. May have saved people from deleting old characters on accident when they made a new one too.

An extremely simple idea that adds a lot to the interface and ease of character changing. Why it wasnt included off the bat is beyond me.

Because that's the way it's always been in TES games?

And thats no reason for it not to be added. Simple and obvious design decisions like this are required in a modern game.

We could name our saves in Morrowind and earlier games. Back then, each save for a certain character had their name as the first word, then the name of the milestone (Beg MQ or End MQ or After FG).

It really seems dump. It would be a very useful feature, which could be easy implemented.

Agreed.

The only thing I have done, which I didn't think of myself I am embarrassed to say, is to plug in a flash drive on the front of my xbox 360 and save the character(s) I am not currently playing onto the flash drive. Then swap 'em around if I feel like playing a different character. A little cumbersome, but I won't accidentally overwrite one that I want to protect.

Oh yeah, please don't add anything, not even good things. I'm so glad TES V is exactly like TES I, even the graphics stayed the same because "that's the way it's always been" is such a great reason.

I was talking purely about the games being grouped by character.

Each character should have a separate save 'profile' so that we could keep all saves for each character separate. This is obviously an engine limitation because it is something people have been asking for for a long time. I think it is beyond the scope of their capabilities with the current engine.

I agree that it would be nice to have a system similar to the one in Dragon Age: Origins. Each character has a separate save section and one can choose by character name.

I play on PC.

What I did was create folders in the Save file sub-directory with names of individual characters.

When I finish a character session, I put those files in the proper folder that is named after each character played. I keep the saves of my current character in the regular saves file, for easy access.

When I end a session with a character, at my leisure, I put those files into their rnamed folder.

When I am in the mood to change a character, I select the desored named file, and choose the save game I want to use. Of course, this is done manually, however, there is less chance of an accidental character write-over.

That would be awesome. Even just having the character name prefixed to the Save file name would be an improvement.
