Restoration boosting

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 11:09 am

Any thing you can do besides training to help boost this skill? Back in Oblivion it was so easy to boost it because even if you had full life you could still do it and increase the skill.

Now they changed it for the better in Skyrim where it only increases depending upon how much you heal yourself (health lost). I don't know about training with traps cause they might kill me, lol.

What have you guys/gals done?

I've always avoided powerleveling skills. If you dont want to use traps, I guess you could jump off small cliffs, or stay underwater for a while. Eat alchemy ingredients that have damage health as a first skill.

Wards are in the restoration school. Use them against the mages. Turn undead is great in the old ruins. Make sure you have them on favorites so you can swap them out quickly with your heal spell.

You can find the Equilibrium spell in Labyrinthian during the mage questline. Then just use that until you're low and heal up again.
Otherwise, the swinging axe traps won't really do enough damage to kill you, so use those cautiously.

There is a lone giant inside the cave at Sleeping Tree Camp. I simply let him wail on me and then exited the cave to recover mana. You can wait just outside, he doesn't follow you, and none of the creatures outside are hostile.

Ideally you should have your armor capped, and 0% cost gear. you also should not take the Regeneration perk because you do not gain 50% xp with the additional healing.

Alright this is what I did. Changed my Lover Stone over to the Mage Stone, and also stayed a night at the Riverwood Inn. (30% increase now)

I found this underwater nordic crypt dome structure underwater nearby in that Lake. (Near where that Hunter camps behind the Guardian Stones).

I just keep going down into the crypt and waiting until I have like 50-75 health and then surface and go up on land (convenient island nearby) and just heal.

Also, I don't consider boosting Restoration "power leveling" or any of that. The only way to increase it is IF your hurt, so going to purposely hurt yourself and then heal isn't consider cheating/boosting to me at least now, lol.

I'm really trying to just get Respite then I might leave it alone. (That or go to 70 for Necromage)

EDIT: WOW I gotta restart all over now because in the process of typing this I died underwater. YAY!

On Mages I use Equilibrium and then heal my character, Equilibrium is a great spell for a Mage who is out of Mana Potions. Apprentices at the College will cast Spells at targets, stand in front of them and use a ward spell to train too.
On Warriors/Sneaks/Begining characters, I back into a wall and let a Wolf or Skeever attack my character, then heal occasionally - trains multiple skills at the same time.

Possible spoilers read at own risk

On your way to the throat of the world their are massive pools of wind you have to clear with clear skies, just stand in one and spam a restoration spell when needed also good for levelling any armor you may be wearing

Can't, this character hasn't started the MQ. I still have Before The Storm in my questlog. So I can't just willy nilly walk through their building and out back to where the actual winds are at.

Seems my best option thus far is Water.

This is what I found to be the most effective method, actually. Healing doesn't give that much XP later on, and I always disliked to intentionally hurt myself to be able to heal, anyway. That's grinding, which I already have to do with the crafting skills. Using Wards and Turn/Repell Undead make for much more natural leveling while you're actually playing and they give a decent amount of XP. I admit, though, that they are not necessarily the most practical spells for everyday use, depending on your type of character.

Have a follower. Position the follower on a trap or -if you aren't far enough in the MQ yet to go to the top of the Throat of the World- into the gateway leading upstairs from High Hrothgar.

Use Healing Hands or Heal Other.

The follower won't die even if you run out of magicka, but a 0% gear would help of course to speed things up a bit.

I really like to do this with these blatantly obvious swinging grate traps in a dungeon, because Jenassa just keeps walking over the blatantly obvious trap trigger again... and again... and again. And she's always almost dead after she's been smashed against the wall.

I guess you could also use the torture victims at the end of the DB questline. Level both Destruction and Restoration in one go. Awesome.
