Labyrinthian's Dragon

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:23 pm

Do tell me how I haven't started the MQ but this thing is STILL IN HERE? LOL.

As soon as I came in that room I just saw the Skeletons about the place. Then I get a bit closer and "RAWR!" out comes Jack Skellington. I just find it weird that (technically) the Dragons aren't even here yet.. but this ones here?

Anyone ever had this happen to them/notice it?

Since it's undead and you don't get it's soul it's probably not a 'true' dragon.

The Skeleton Dragon has been there since before Savos and his ill fated team went into there before. Considering the ruins besides the labyrinth are all Pre-First Era, it's probably the dragon worshipped by the Dragon Cult at this location, and might have even been the one that gave Morokei his mask. The dragon might have been killed during the Dragon War, and was buried inside Labyrinthian by the Cult.

Yeah, that thing's fun, and like buckom and REL have said, it's always there. I didn't really know that until I first encountered it at 3 AM on my orc and screamed bloody murder.

I take care when moving about Dungeons. The opening and reclosing door looked a bit on the Beware Something Awful about level.

Opened looked in, the dozen or so skeletons AND the skeletal dragon gave me the mindset, "I might use some archery before I venture forth".

If you watch for these, the battling is more "tense" but you tend to not get into so much trouble.

Saw the Skeletal Dragon and stepped aside waiting for the door to reclose. Went off and thought for many minutes as to correct tactics.

If you interrupt a resurrection ritual that Alduin is performing at just the right moment, you'll have more skeletal dragons.

The one I met near Roriksted just sat there and watched me like a skeletal puppy while I was killing him to get the soul that he (oddly enough) already had.

Yeaaah, but that's a bug. The resurrected dragons always climb out of the ground in their skeletal state, to get their flesh a bit later.

True. As much as I like the way they were designed I'm not a fan of how seemingly weak they tend to be. I mean when you one can shot the one at the watchtower with a steel warhammer something is wrong.

Nice. I took the liberty of correcting your quote for you.

So has anyone managed to survive the dragon room on master difficulty without cheesing it like I had to do?

(Stay outside the room, pull level, throw in fireballs, repeat :()

This is more than a fair and reasonable tactic when facing a dozen or more skeletons and a skeletal dragon, thank you. I use poisoned pins, but the idea is the same, and fair on your dragonborne. You do not have to be the greatest tank in the world, just the most efficient destroyer of enemies in your path.

Considering the lack of soul, it's probably undead in the same way a dead thrall or a skeletal minion is. Whoever sealed the place wanted it guarded by a powerful creature. No living dragon would accept to become a guard dog for eternity hence the best they came up with was an undead dragon thrall.

I did (well, on Expert), but I was already level 45-ish. It seemed too boring to me to stay out of the room and one-hitting the skeletons. Heck, I tried to solve it with archery and stealth on the skeleton dragon at first, but he went down too fast without ever really noticing me, so I just reloaded and charged in the room while dual wielding my blades like a real madman (and completely OOC for my avatar lol). I'm glad I did, it was much more challenging that way.

The 5 dragonbone loot is annoying, because it's right at the start of the dungeon.

That's not cheesy. It's smart. I cast atronauchs while staying behind the gate and I feel just fine about it.
