Some follower console command questions

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:49 pm

Simple question here: Is there a way to set an NPC's "home" location?

I've taken to forcing NPC followers and customizing them and I've found a generic "Khajiit" for my latest, however I want to do the companions quest line and as you may know some of the quests have various members of the faction replace your follower, forcing them to go to their place of origin.

Is there a way to find an NPCs home via console? Do generic NPCs even have them? If they don't can you set one for them?
I'm rather fond of my follower and I'd rather not just loose him to the wilderness of Skyrim. I've tried to follow him a few times and he seems to just wander, no real place for him to stop. Sometimes I've lost track of him completely when he zones into a new area too.

Unfortunately there is no way to marry a Khajiit NPC.

Generic? Like one of the unnamed Khajiit that spawns along the road?

Basically, yes.

I find using a generic NPC to be more fitting than to re-purpose an existing named one.

If you can't bring Mohammad to the mountain, bring the mountain to Mohammad...

player.moveto xxxxxxxx (the NPC's refID)
(can move you to the NPC) :obliviongate:

Except, normally, the generic 'race' NPCs despawn.

You may need to do some experiments to see if your new follower will despawn if you dismiss him/her. My other suggestion would be to try a mod to have more than one follower if you are unable to dismiss your generic one without losing him/her. But if you have changed the NPC significantly with the console to be a regular, persistent character, can you make it also 'married' to you with the console, even though you cannot go through a marriage or get any relevant dialogue?

I've never noticed them despawning, not sure how to test that. Attempts to locate them with the moveto code usually fail, likely because they're not unique? No idea. I've changed him quite significantly, removed from all factions other than the ones needed for a follower and stats/items. Not sure how to make them persistent in any way.

I'll look into tricking the game into thinking i'm married to them, though with the sorry state of Khajiit marriage Bethesda left us with in Skryim I'm not sure if that'll be possible. I've looked into mods but have been avoiding them for the time being, trying to see what I can get away with simply using console.

I'm not sure if it's relevant but I've spawned unnamed NPCs in my home and they never leave, not sure why but they always stay in my home. Cooking, or eating but never sleeping. o.o

The unnamed NPCs are random encounters, and should be scripted to despawn if you do not enter the cell they are in for (probably) 10 days.
Did you spawn them using the console? And did they have unique IDs?

Edit: Have you tried making a copy of an existing NPC?

Yeah, I did spawn them myself. There are maybe ten different Khajiit IDs that come up when you search. Never had one of the ones in my home despawn, though I visit regularly. I'll have to wait ten days and see if they vanish.

I'd try waiting 30 days without entering the cell at all, just to be sure. If he/she despawns, you will have to be very careful about dismissing them as a follower. If you're on PC I'd recommend downloading the Creation Kit and just making your ideal follower.

How hard would it be for someone who has no modding experience to do this? I'm not really satisfied with any of the followers I've found in game yet..

The new Creation Kit has excellent tutorials. For anyone interested in modding, whether they have any experience or not, it should be fun and not too difficult.
