Starting a *REAL* Skyrim Family

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:19 am

Would you agree that kids in Skyrim don't have much to say, and not enough involvement in the game?
The changes in the first 2 threads that are listed are ideas that will IMPROVE the games family interactions as well as interactions w/ kids.

Alright I have gathered enough suggestions and ideas now from my 3 post. You can read them here>>>
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1327690-idea-child-adoption-and-family-enhancement/
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1327962-children-of-skyrim-w-no-souls/page__p__19966509#entry19966509
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1327763-glitchy-houses-lose-items-and-forget-things/page__p__19963490#entry19963490
(The third one is not as important)... This is the last post I hope I will make on the topic. If you agree these changes would greatly improve the game say why and likewise if you don't. I hope I get some more supporters of these ideas
I pulled the ideas from those posts and re-pasted them here for convenience.

**Children are adoptable
*Children show all forms of emotion; they can cry when things go bad; and rub their eyes, they could yawn when their tired. They could complain at bedtime.
*Wives able to have more diverse diologues
*Children being more unique and having more diverse diologues
*Children play with your dog in the house
*Children would fight with their siblings and the Mom would actually respond with scolding
Children would greet you and engage in various diologues upon your arrival home
Children would run out to play with other kids in the village
Children AI could receive live information from quest logs so they would know things you'd recently done and possibly discuss it with you
Children say they missed you when they got back
1 more bed in the house for the kid and a bed that you could tell the dog to rest at (dog bed located next to childs)
Children respond to actions of Mom and also interact with them as well as the player and the dog
MORE THINGS FOR THE CHILDREN TO SAY
More clothes for children
Ability to give the kids allowance to spend on food, and other various things like a drum or a knife
Discussion with wife about the kids and how their doing
Abillity to give wife gifts as well as children

Things I like about Children and wives now and how to improve=
Wives give you money from sales; fine as it is
Wives greet you when you return; more greeting possibilities that are actually relevant, not just "back from some adventure I assume"
Ability to own a dog and tell them to wait; a bed for the dog in your house, interacts with kids and mom, has personality
Wives pick stuff up that you drop; she actually puts on the clothes you drop
Wives engage in fair amount of dialogue; a system that constantly finds NEW conversation opportunities and possibilities, to keep character interactions FRESH and INTERESTING.

I noticed that kids have hardly any emotions in Skyrim, like when their parents die

They act mad when you try to hit them and happy when you play with them but what if they could do the following??:

Cry when they were sad; rub their eyes and have tears.
Yell when they got mad; then cry
Throw temper tantrums
Yawn before bedtime and stretch
Curious; scratch their heads
Happy; jump around laughing, clap and say yayyy, crack a wide smile and giggle

Did you post this to the thread on suggestions for TES .VI? I think it would be a nice feature to add next game.

i thought it would be a good patch for skyrim. But, it would also be good for their next game which i think will be another fallout

All of that would be pretty amazing. But if the PR machine came out and said they had all that in the run up to the next TES game I wouldn't believe them for a second - it just seems like too much.

I'd just prefer them to be removed, they did an incredibly shoddy job with them in Skyrim. There are all of two kids in Skyrim, and they are one race. What the hell is that? Plus, most of them are just asking for a Daedric Gauntlet smackdown.

As what I've read on most posts about Kids... They want them not to be invincible coz they want to kill the children. What the hell were they thinking...

Because there has to be a way to get rid of them. I only see two options. One, a bodybag, and two, send them to a remote orphanage.

whether their invincible or not doesnt matter to me if the were killable it would be kinda kewl because you would actually have to try to save them from dragons which would be so fun (if your not evil). I wouldn't kill them and if i ever did i would load the save before they were killed before playing again. Most likely, I would save them.

And its harder to feel sorry for the kids in the orphanage when their invincible although i still do feel sorry for them

Why? Are you not allowed to want more depth in NPC interaction in TES? It's not like the OP is saying this should be the core gameplay. Yeah it's slightly overambitious (especially as a patch), but if I was putting things on my wishlist for a perfect TES game a lot of these things would be on there.

Please lets not mimic creepy baby dolls you can buy for kids.
How about a less shallow courtship and relationship system first?
I'd rather see it removed altogether for time and money spent on other areas of the game, the playhouse listed above is available in the sims and would detract too much from the main game.

Thats incorrect, I think adoption wouldnt detract from anything, Please Explain. Noone forces you to go to your house in skyrim. Sims is irrelevant

It's just too detailed. The advlts don't even possess those behavior components, so why would the kids suddenly do? Besides that, it would make them all the more annoying imho, they'll draw too much of your attention.

those are great ideas OP but i think its just to much stuff, id rather see more things added to the game world like dragons that i encounter to use shouts other then just frost or fire. Also for things like weapon, case and armor maniqins to acctually work properly.

Although ..... as for the children of skyrim it just sorta sadens me that im unable to really help them. If there were quests that let me help them build a better orphnage or build a school for them. Something where i can help them have a better life then what they have.

If a kid wants to be a pro thief, then let me introduce them to Vex & Tonilia, because all those two do is sit gossip and eat bread in the ragged flaggon all day anyway.

Or the little girl at the taven in winterhold, who wishes to be a mage. But can not pursue her dream because her parents dont like mages. Give me a quest that can help her so she can become the awesome mage she wants to be.

And the small boy in the cabin with his grandfather, who lost both his parents during the Alduins attack on Helgen. When i found that cabin and listened to the boys story from his grandfather, dam that kinda struck a cord. Reason why is because It wasnt Helgen or the people of Helgen Alduin was after, it was to stop me from discovering that i am the dragonborn and destined to end Alduins reign.

Its things like that where i wish i could just do more to help change my game for the better, and hopefully see how it helped those in my game. Thats the reward to me, not the gold or the enchanted shield or item. Its seeing how it helped change skyrim in my game world to become better and see it evolve the way I want it be.

If you wanted this, why not just have kids IRL? lol

This is a good idea. More quests involving children, like the Winterhold girl wanting to become a mage.

The OP's suggestions are quite detailed and could potentially make that aspect of the game too complex and overwhelming. I don't mind them being in the game if it can work though. It'll be another aspect of the game to explore and play around with. The only exception is if working too much on it would detract away from development of other parts of the game (both new additions (ie. DLC) or existing improvements (ie. Bug fixes and adjusting current gameplay mechanics). Same applies if it were to be incorporated into the next Beth/TES game.

How bout getting rid of the children? No one will notice that they are gone, Morrowind and Oblivion was fine without them.

Return to V - Skyrim
