Can't start DB...Why?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 11:27 am

In my second character. Didn't want him to be a real nice guy. Killed Grelod in Riftin, but have slept three nights and still haven't been visited to join DB. Now, this happened after I was accepted into the Thieves Guild.
Is there a connection there?

You can join both the TG and the DB.

I take it you haven't recieved a Mysterious Note from the courier yet? It's necessary for the next quest to trigger. Sometimes it takes a while for the courier to find you, travel around for several days and it should happen. When you get the note, go to sleep.

You have to talk to Aventino after the kill and get rewarded before it triggers.

That's what I was about to suggest, gotta finish the first portion before the note shows up.

Eh... I always assume people come back to Aventus, I mean there has to be some sort of reward and who'd want to miss out on shiny things? ;) But I guess I should have mentioned that.

Also, you don't have to wait on the note. You do have to complete the quest by visiting Aventino after killing Grelod. On my current playthrough I just killed her, visited Aventino to finish the quest, left his house, fast traveled to my house, went to bed, recruited to DB. All in about five minutes of real time. Never saw the note at all.

Also worth noting that once you return to Aventino and get your reward, you have to sleep somewhere that isn't in the walls of Windhelm for Astrid to up and kidnap you.

Also, the DB will not take you if you sleep in Windhelm.

Guess I should read more that 7 posts before replying as this was covered in the post above mine.

I never did consider a dinner plate a reward.

He's a dumb kid with no sense of worth, he'd probably cry if he knew my bow was worth more than his house.

Imperial, judging by the name.

I don't think he could be dunmer.... wrong name, doesn't "look" right.... Why, Aphie? What are you thinking?

He's not really "in" the Grey Quarter. The house is on the upper edge.... probably it's a situation where his parents weren't well-off, and that's what they could afford? I think he's probably Imperial (going by the name) - and it's hard to tell with the kids, he could even be Nord,

[Or maybe it's one of those things that got "short changed" during development.... *shrug*]

That Dunmer-loving Nord who replaces Ulfric as the Jarl if you do the Imperial side of the civil war also lives in that part of Windhelm. Calixo is also just around the corner, and he's also not a Dunmer.

According to the CK, he's actually a Nord. I'd venture a guess that his father was an Imperial, hence the unusual name.
