BattlemageDeathknight: One-Handed or Two-Handed

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:58 pm

What do you guys think? I lost my 100+ hour battlemage (in which i used 1-handed and shield for melee) save and am going to do another Battlemage/Deathknight. 2-handed is really fun and looks bada** but most of the "unique" weapons are 1-handed as well as having the issue of having to sheath to use spells. Anyone run a Battlemage/Deathknight that uses 2-handed? How do you deal with the spell switching issue?

Note: I am on PS3

Edit: Focusing on Conjuration, Destruction and Restoration.

I wander around with a short sword and Atronach in my left hand. If stuff emerges I cast the Atronach and if they are not too tough I bash em' with the sword.

I have nothing in one handed but it works well for that. If stuff gets serious I pull out the big sword, bound to "1" on my PC where I have all my perks and beat on the boss or whatever is causing my Atronach trouble. I have the Battlemage at level 40 now and with all Deadric I am at the armor cap and the big sword hits at 120. I one shot bosses sometimes with decapitations every once in a while. The big sword does almost 500 damage with a critcal power attack.

Done with the Battle part I'm getting his Conjure and Illusion up some. He does destruction with the big sword and as he is in battle when he needs health I just pop potions for health. For Alteration all I need is the candle really. Some Alchemy and some Enchanting skills as well but nothing too over powered.

He's my third after a Mage and sneaky Kajiit. Toughest build as he has a wide range of attributes.

Thanks for the input, however the style of battlemage I am playing is very different than yours (my fault for not specifying what magic I use). Anyone else with a more similar build to mine?

I dont know if I would use destro + 2 handed, right now though Im planning my next build, which should be 2 handed, heavy armor and necromancy/conjuration, conjure the elementals then the 2 handed axe at low levels, and at high levels have the constant necro'd followers along with the axe when needed, necro followers who are also conjurers, then have an "alive" conjuration follower and Ill be the head knight in my order of Death :drag:

Not sure if this works on PS3 but on the PC with 360 controller you assign the two-hand weapon to the d-pad hotkey and then select two spells with the triggers allows you to toggle the hot-key between the sword or spells without ever pausing the game from the favorites menui. This also works with bows.

When you assign the shield and/or one-hand and toggle the hot-key it just makes you unarmed.
