It's just a trade off. Mine, kill and loot, then trade for gold and or soul gems.

Yes.

Spoiler
Blackreach has ore nodes that produce good soul gems when you mine them, both grand and greater sizes. From UESP wiki: "There are 36 geode veins scattered throughout Blackreach: 34 in the cavern itself, and 2 in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Silent_City_Catacombs. 23 of these geode veins can be mined to yield level-dependent empty soul gems (grand soul gems appear starting at level 30; black soul gems at level 31).

Really, I had no idea. I have never really thought about it. Then again, I have never come across this in Mor. Obl or Sky.

You have a chance to get black soul gems from them if you are level 31 or higher.

Agreeing with everything posted. Although IMO it's easier to head for the nearest Dwemer ruin and glean gems off the automatons.

Never really thought to mine them... they're so abundant everywhere that there's not really much of a point in mining them..

I mine them off the vendors. Stocks replenish every other game day. I just visit Riverwood Trader with all my dungeon loot, sell until he runs out of coin, then buy up all his empty soul gems and sell him the rest of my junk. The petty and lesser ones are dirt cheap and commons aren't too bad. Those are really all you need for leveling enchanting. Coin is pretty easy to come by, especially if you are patient enough to loot everything in any given dungeon.

This is probably the #1 source with Blackreach being a close #2.
