One I would like to see, is anything other than the one we got.

I felt completely out of element, the whole time. It wasn't the DB of old, that's for sure. I understand that it may be what they were trying to go for, but I just didn't care for it as much as Oblivion, or even the ones in Morrowind.

I was just mad at them the whole time...except Babette. And that is really saying something.

Really? I love the DB questline, much more than the one in Oblivion. The guild is fragmented, it operates in a new way to survive. And the questline is beautifully written, IMO.

OP: I agree, we need a contract to kill Mikael ;) shall I perform the Black Sacrament?

Sorry, I didn't mean to derail the topic. It just didn't work for me.

EDIT :

Spoiler
When she starts in on this "Follow my orders and to Hell with the NM" I wished I could have taken her out myself. It was a disgrace to the DB, the NM and to Sithis.

I understand why you didn't like it. I had that feeling at the beginning too. Then I got more into remembering about the ending of the Oblivion DB questline. It made the dysfunction make more sense which caused me to like it. I was never an Astrid fan though until the end.

I agree with Solitudian the DBH questline is amazing in skyrim compared to oblivion. Nothing against the oblivion questline I know it had some different style of contracts but i just thought the events leading to the end was far well done. considering the fact we get infinite random contracts instead of everything ended and you being the listener telling someone who to kill or what not a week for weak money it was disappointing.

Skyrim DBH started off slow but had some awesome twists and turns including the Astrid thing which I never saw coming.

The dark brotherhood is by far my favourite questline, in both Oblivion and Skyrim.
Spoiler
I thought, however, that they handled the sanctuary being assaulted very poorly. It just wasnt as effective to have your entire family (Minus two) killed off. It was better done in Oblivion. That's what bothered me the most. And compared to the thieve's guild, the redone sanctuary is nothing compared to what the Ragged flagon/cystern can be. We only get 3 "Initiates", with no backstory, and if you killed cicero, you only get 2 familiar faces.

right cause killing our innocent members in Oblivion was even better. Skyrim's sanctuary assaulting was well done. It showed double crossing on both sides and the player never expected it. It was alright in oblivion but i didn't like it

Sorry, OP. This thread turned into a "What about the DB questline" thread. It needs to be moved to the spoiler section.

I do apologize. I feel like there was a snowball effect.

@Senor Cinco: That would've made a nice place to branch things off. Deal with the disrespect yourself, ignore it, or side with them.

My major problem with the DB quest in Skyrim is you don't have the ability to save anyone during the raid. I really wish you could try and protect your family, rather than just get revenge. If I do end up getting a PC, the first thing I'm going to do is bring my Family (minus two) to the Dawnstar Sanctuary. I'll probably also mod a Lucien Lachance spirit to walk around the Sanctuary as normal, just to make our Family a tiny bit bigger.

On topic: None of the Bards bother me, not even the one in Morthal. He was quite friendly.

It would have. I wanted to cut her damn throat, when she started in on that mess. It wasn't her little club. It was the DB for crying out loud. As much as I hate Cicero, he was the only "actual" true DB member. She did come around, only as she entered the Void. It was too late on all accounts by that time.

I understand what the writers were getting at and going for. I just felt pissed-off the whole time.

A branch would have been great, indeed.

I rarely find myself in Riverwood at night, so he's not a big deal to me either.

Out of curiosity, if you help both Farendel and Sven by revealing both letters to Camilla, do you get both of them as followers?

I don't think you can. It should end the quest when you give her either. Therefore you would not be able to show the other.

In defense of Astrid and the Falkreath Sanctuary, they weren't even sure if the Night Mother was still around, or if she had been destroyed when the other Sanctuaries were lost. I think Astrid initially did what she did out of necessity. She was trying to keep her Family together by creating the illusion the Night Mother was still hearing contracts and sending out members of the Brotherhood. It's not too different from what the Priestesses of Dibella do after they lose their sybil. I think she performed fairly admirably, even considering her discarding the Five Tenets (which mostly amounted to the rule she had in place: Honor thy Family). Her mistake was believing the Night Mother was unnecessary, and refusing to back down and make way for the Listener and a return to the Old Ways. What should have been a temporary measure became (in her mind at least) the ideal day to day way of handling things.

No need to defend her. It started out fine, I could see why they were, the way they were. But when I saw the 5 Tenants, or lack there of, I knew these Bozos, didn't have a clue. Even when presented the NM, she still refused to believe. Still running on this fake facade, that this was the "new way" of the DB.

Granted she didn't know any better. I will give her that.

I will agree on one thing regarding the DBH questline I didn't like from either oblivion and skyrim: family members being killed off. What's the point? they survived long before you joined but for some reason besthesda thinks it's cool for the player to join and have the family become dead. What type of story telling is this? I do prefer skyrim's DBH over oblivion but I just wish they stop making the family either get killed by you or killed by an assault through double crossing
