What if Skyrim had FalloutNV style endings?

Normally such a thing would probably belong in the General board, but since this is bound to include tons of spoilers, I put it here even though i'm still not sure wither it should really be here or in the General Board or not.


Anyway I got to thinking, what if just before getting the scene with the dragons on the Throat of the World when you're sent back to Skyrim from Sovengarde, you also got a long Fallout NV-Like ending slideshow showcasing your actions and explaining what happened to the people, factions, towns, etc you interacted with during the course of the game, and what actions resulted from the quests you completed? What would each of them say?

Since FNV ended, it's not something I'd want in TES. I like that the story keeps on going in Skyrim. If you're just talking about slides about your actions telling the story up to that point, it would be ok but I'd rather the devs put their time into making more world instead of a summary of things I did. I know what I did. I think the result of what I did might be in a book for TESVI. :tes:

Yeah, that's what I really meant there. Besides, it's just a creative "for-fun" thing and not really an actual request to Beth.

I'll start us off since I Have just a few ideas.


I got to thinking, what if just before getting the scene with the dragons on the Throat of the World when you're sent back to Skyrim from Sovengarde, you also got a long Fallout NV-Like ending slideshow (or perhaps instead of a slideshow, a thumbing through a book like at the end of Daggerfall) showcasing your actions and explaining what happened to the people, factions, towns, etc you interacted with during the course of the game, and what actions resulted from the quests you completed?

What would each of them say, you think?

Edit: I started quite a list, so here it is.


Dragonborn p1: (Beat the game)

And so it came to pass that the Dovakiin, who had narrowly escaped the call of Sovengarde in the doomed town of Helgen, once again snatched certain doom from the jaws of the World Eatter, shattering his soul into many peices and casting his soul back into atherious with the power of his Thu'um.

Dragonborn p2.1 (Stormcloak member):

(don't have anything solid yet, something about ulfric praising you or something)

Dragonborn p2.2 (Imperial member):

(Nothing solid yet, something about Tullius honoring you, even though he doesn't want to publicly admit it)

Dragonborn P2.3 (Join neither, don't kill paarthunaax):

Having decided to stay as far away from the civil war as he/she could, the Dovakiin instead found much welcome from his/her new, yet ancient friend: the dragon Paarthunaax, as well as those who called him their master.

Dragonborn P2.4 (Join Neither: Kill Paarthunaax):

Having wanting nothing to do with the civil war, the Dovakiin returned instead to the ranks of the blades, who welcomed him back with much fanfare and celebration.

The Blades: (Kill Paarthunaax)

"Invigored and inspired with newfound purpose by the Dovakiin's vigilance, The Blades were once again able to grow strong in the years that followed. In time, Sky Haven's halls were soon filled with Dragonhunters from all across Tamriel, becoming a thriving, bustling community, just like in the ancient days of the Akaviri Dragonguard.

The Blades: (Don't Kill Paarthunaax)

Disappointed and bitter with the Dovakiin's hesitance to bring justice to an old enemy, the Blades kept waiting for an answer that never came. Eventually, the disheartened Blades went their seperate ways once again. Sky Haven Temple's halls grew dark and cold as had been before.

The Greybeards: (Kill Paarthunaax)

The loss of their leader would haunt the Greybeards for many centuries to come. They became ever more isolationist than ever, and the term "Dragonborn" became to them a symbol of great evil which had no place in the way of the voice.

The Greybeards: (Don't Kill Paarthunaax)

In the years that followed, the Greybeards worked hard with their leader to help mend the wounds between human and dragonkind, helping their leader bring more and more dragons over to his "Way of the Voice." Although not able to fully bring all the dragons over to Parthunaax's way of thinking, the Greybeards were none the less satisfied with the way things had turned out in the end.

The Imperial Legion: (Complete civil war for legion)

With the help of the Dragonborn, the Imperial Legion was finally able to end the agression of Ulfric Stormcloak once and for all, returning peace and fairness for men and women of all races to Skyrim once again. Although it would take many long years for the wounds to heal, and for the seeds bitterness to subside, in the end it meant much less hardship for both Skyrim, and the Empire as a whole. In the mean time, bards songs of praise were given to the men and women of the Legion, and of course to the Dovakiin who dispite being nearly executed by them in the beginning, ultimately made the right chioce in the end.

The Imperial Legion: (Complete defense of Whiterun for legion, but do not complete Battle for Windhelm)

Although the war was not yet won, and the Legion still had a long way to go, for many children of the Empire the defeat of Alduin meant that there was now light at the end of the tunnel, giving the Legion a much-needed boost of Morale. After all, the Dovakiin had already chosen his side with the Legion when they had successfully defended Whiterun from Ulfric's campaign of aggression. And with the World-Eatter dead and defeated, what chance did a lowly rebel leader stand?

The Imperial Legion: (Complete Battle for Whiterun for Stormcloaks)

For many in the Empire, in particular the Legion forces still stationed in Skryim, The World Eatter's destruction offered very little releif. While Tamriel had indeed been saved from destruction, it now meant that there was next to nothing to stop Ulfric's recent string of victories, thanks in no small part to the Dovakiin. Although Tullius and his men tried to keep a straight face to the grim situation ahead, many in the legion knew full well that the war was already lost for the Empire. After all, if the mighty World Eater himself could not stop the vengant Dragonborn, what hope could they have?

The Imperial Legion: (Complete civil war for Stormcloaks)

Broken and battered by the loss of Skyrim to Ulfric and his Stormcloaks, the Empire continued to weaken and decay in the century that followed. What few providences it had left under its banner began to rebel as well, eventually leaving Cyrodill an isolated and vulnerable kingdom. For the Mede empire, Skyrim's successful succession was but one step on its road to its immenent demise, a road the Empire had been traveling on since the end of the Third Era.

The Imperial Legion/Stormcloaks: (Don't complete Defense/Battle for Whiterun for either side.)

The Children of the Empire would continue to war with the so-called "Sons of Skryim" for many long years after Alduin's defeat, weaking both sides severly in the bloody struggle for the future of Skyrim. In the end, both sides fell to the hardships that came too soon after. Just like the Thalmor had intended all along.

The Stormcloaks: (COmplete Civil War for Stormcloaks)

With the help of the Dovakiin, Ulfric and his Stormcloaks were finally able to break off the chains of Imperial oppression once and for all, returning peace and freedom to all the true sons and daughters of Skyrim. In the years that followed, Ulfric made good on his vow to rebuild the battered Skyrim into the vision of ancient Nord glory and power that it once was. Though in the mean time, Bards sung songs of praise to their new leader, Ulfric Stormcloak, and to the Dragonborn, without whom Skyrim's liberation would not have been possible.

The Stormcloaks: (Complete Battle for Whiterun for Stormcloaks, but do not complete civil war)

Though the war was not yet won for the Stormcloaks, To Ulfric the World Eatter's defeat meant that Skyrim's liberation was all but a given. After all, the Dovakiin had already proven his eagerness to help the cause of freedom during the Battle for Whiterun, all but singlehandedly helping the Stormcloaks take the city with as few non-military casualties as possible. And, in the end... if the dreaded World Eatter himself and his army of dragons could not stop the Dovakiin, did a dying empire really stand much better of a chance?

The Stormcloaks: (Complete defense of Whiterun for legion)

While the defeat of the World Eater was celebrated by many on both sides, for those loyal to Ulfric and his cause it came with a shade of uncertainty and fear. Although the war was not yet over, Alduin's defeat meant that the war would continue in earnist. While this alone would normally have not phased the stalward sons of skyrim, the fact that the Dovakiin had helped the Empire during Ulfric's failed Battle for Whiterun brought an unsung worry into many a camp of the Stormcloaks. After all, if not even the dragons, say nothing of the World Eatter himself could stop the Dragonborn, what chance could any of them have?

The Stormcloaks: (Complete civil war for the Legion)
Their rebellion broken by the Empire they'd so sorely underestimated, as well as the power of the Dovakiin that'd made their victory possible, many of the remaining Stormcloaks fled into the wilderness to escape the Empire's cleansing. While some eventually returned home to find a life of relative, if uneasy peace like Tullius hoped, many remained in the wilds of Skyrim for quite some time, turning to petty banditry to fuel their mostly unsuccessful guerrilla campaigns against the Imperial Legion. Eventually however many of the few surviving Stormcloaks joined bandit tribes and gangs, shedding aside all traces of their former identity, while many more died in the wilderness. The Stormcloak cause became all but forgotten, remembered only by historians and tavern bards singing tales of their defeat at the hands of the Dovakiin.

Forsworn (General): (Kill less than 100 forsworn, Civil war not decided)

In the years that followed, the Forsworn could continue to plague the reach, growing more and more bold and depraved with each act. The empire could do little to deal with them, their forces already dealing too heavily with Ulfric's ongoing insurrection. Eventually, the psychotic tribals overran the reach entirely.

Forsworn (General): (Kill 100-200 forsworn, Civil war not decided)

While the Forsworn continued to plague the Reach for many decades to come, the vigilance of the Dovakiin set their plans back quite a bit. However, the empires inability to deal with the problem due to ulfric's insurrection meant that they could never be succesfully be contained, the reach was still a very dangerous place for any traveler.

Forsworn (General): (Kill 200-400 forsworn, Civil war not decided)
While Foresworn continued to be a dangerous foe within the reach, the Dovakiin's vigallance meant that their numbers had been weakened drastically, dispite being allowed to run amok by the Legion who for years were unable to contain them. Though they still carried out their psychotic plans of conquest and genocide, they did so with a lot more caution than before, ever fearful of the man/woman that'd so easily killed so many of them.

Forsworn (General): (Kill >400 forsworn, Civil war not decided)
Dispite gaining almost free reign from the Legion who had been too busy dealing with Ulfric to deal with the menace, the Foresworn found their defeat in another foe: The Dovakiin. A foe as Dedicated and bloodthirsty as they were, he/she erradicated hundreds of the Psychotic tribals, single handedly reducing their influence in the reach from a major force to a minor nusance.

Forsworn (Civil war won for Legion, <100 forsworn killed)
While the forsworn had been allowed to run free during the civil war, their free ride in the Reach would soon come to an end. With Ulfric dealt with, Tullius soon turned his attention twoards the reach, sending scores of legionares into the hills to weed out the forsworn presence which had taken deep root there. Eventually they were able to drive the barbaric tribals from the Reach, but it was a Phyrric victory for the legion. Hundreds of legion soldiers died at the hands of the foresworn, many of whom had been lucky enough to survive the war with the stormcloaks.

Forsworn (Civil war won for Legion, 100-200 forsworn killed)
While the forsworn had been allowed to run free during the civil war, their free ride in the Reach would soon come to an end. With Ulfric dealt with, Tullius soon turned his attention twoards the reach, sending scores of legionares into the hills to weed out the forsworn presence which had taken deep root there. Eventually they were able to drive the barbaric tribals from the Reach, but not without many causualties. However, due to the Dovakiin's own efforts against the forsworn prior to Tullius's campaign, many more Legion soldiers were able to tell their tale to their families.

Forsworn (Civil war won for Legion, >200 forsworn killed)
While the forsworn had been allowed to run free during the civil war, their free ride in the Reach would soon come to an end. With Ulfric dealt with, Tullius soon turned his attention twoards the reach, sending scores of Legionares into the hills to weed out the forsworn presence which had taken deep root. Although they resisted feiricely, the Dovakiin's previous efforts of extermination against their numbers meant that the tribals were no matched for the battle hardened Legionares. The Foresworn were slaughtered almost down to the last man.

It's not the same situation so the games couldn't have ended in the same way. For Fallout, the game world is pretty self-enclosed, just the Mojave and some surrounding regions in the DLC. They can put the next game somewhere else and no one will even know what happened in the Mojave, or care. Tamriel is a connected world. What happens in Skyrim will affect other parts of the game world and hence future games. They can't have scenario A, B, C, D etc. going forward.

Not entirely true. You know what you did, but often you fail to see the consequences of your actions. Many a times I did what I thought was right, but ended up causing more damage in the end.

Oblivion had a short ending cinematic (and an opening one too), somehting like that would be welcomed. FNV style wouldn't work since there are quite few world changing decisions in the game. Not to mention they propably don't want to set any canon ending to the stone that they would have to follow in TES VI and/or DLCs.

I would settle for that. I gave my computer screen an ugly stare when there was no cinematic ending to Skyrim. Even Oblivion had one.

i want the oblivion style ending. Skyrim's ending is simply crap.
After killing alduin, you get ported to the throat of the world....and thats when most of the people dont know what to do, since there is no cinematic, so ppl assumed there is something more to do for the main quest.
That, is the biggest thing i hated about skyrim.
The quests simply dont pass as an rpg. Other than that, the gameworld is awesome.
