I recently discovered an amusing bug in Skyrim: If you're a Nightingale and are the head of the thieves guild, if you've never spoken to Tonilia up until that part she will treat you like you've only just joined the guild and will give you the starting out Leather Armor! She is not updated with the quest to recognise that you're no longer a new recruit.

So...
