Sneak skill - too high?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:53 am

Hi all,

I'm wondering, is it possible to get your sneak skill "too high" to the point where it may wrap back around to some less effective number? I've noticed an issue with pickpocketing (documented over at the wikis too) where if you stack too many bonuses too far, your chances drop to zero.

My own khajit character has 5/5 ranks in stealth, 100 base sneak, and all other perks in the sneak constellation/tree. Using light armor.

As my character has been leveling and gearing up, I've been experimenting more with different combinations of fortify sneak gear and so forth. Sometimes it just feels like my character has become somewhat less effective at stealth as I've leveled up. Not sure why exactly.

I guess I'm wondering if someone's done some trial and error and ever concluded that stacking too much fortify sneak actually hurts you more than helps, and maybe offer some recommendations on gear enchants for achieving a comfortable level of effectiveness while sneaking.

No, it doesn't wrap around.

Yes (kinda'). Some people believe Sneak is OPed because you can get it to the point where NPCs will bump into you and not detect you. I have no problem with this, however. :P

Pickpocketing appears to be glitched, whereas Sneak just gets extremely broken if you hit 100 with it and take all the perks in its tree. Not that I'm complaining, but you pretty much have to go out of your way to be seen by that point.

I have got 100, all of the perks in the tree and four pieces of +47% sneaking gear.
I'm practically a ghost.
>.<

EDIT: Actually I only have 1/5 in the first perk because with my gear I don't need it, the points are better spent somewhere else.

I have a mod that removes the level and skill caps. My sneak is at about 120 and I am basically invisible (though I'm usually invisible anyway, if you know what I mean :P).
