My dark elf, how to proceed :)

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:42 pm

So I stopped playing TES for a month because I was to much focused on min/maxing.

Now I started over deleted all the other characters I had and made a dark elf, the race I found most fun in Oblivion.

I don't want to focus to much on perks but eventually I will a bit to not fall of to much late game.

But if I apraoch the dark elf lore wise? In what should I invest point a bit? 1Handed, fire magic and summoning and maybe archery?

Any ideas of how you would build the dark elf if you want to respect the lore?

Edit: right now I'm lvl 10? The perks I already spend point in are

- smitting steel (I love ma smitting :P)
- destruction : novice + dual casting
- conjuration : novice + apprentice + mystic binds + soul stealer + summoner

(I hate having to visit dunguns twice just to loot, maybe taking extra pockets worth it?)

Dark elves are svckers for destruction magic. :sorcerer: But they are also well known as talented swordsmen and archers. Their multi-faceted offensive capabilities along with a natural bonus in sneaking therefore makes them good nightblades and assassins. ;)

By the way, don't bother revisiting dungeons for loot. You should really only concentrate on gold and really valuable artifacts, and you should even stop bothering with the latter once your carrying capacity is full.

Also, don't bother stripping dead bodies, they are a waste of time.

Dunmer have always been one of those races that was fairly good at anything ... meaning that they were not specifically Magic, Rogue or Warrior focused. Course in Skryim this now applies to just about any race (not something I'm happy about, but oh well).

I remember them most in Morrowind and liked how they took great respect of the dead (tombs everywhere). Some Dunmer even liked the dead a little too much (note Falanu Hlaalu in OB). They also seem more inclined to worship Daedra instead of the Nine (or Eight). I think a Fire mage that also summons Daedra would be a good fit. Use sword for melee and light armor (as I would save my Magicka for fire spells, not shields).

Dunmer has in lore always been very diverse and often seem to prefer hybrid classes. From what you already have a battlemage-ish build seems like the most logical path, adding perks to a weapon skill(preferably one-handed to have a free hand for spells) and maybe armor. Both heavy and light are usable, and even though they had a bonus to light armor in Morrowind it was very common to see them use medium and heavy armor so they are not unfamiliar with using it.

As for the skills you already have I would go for the daedra path in the conjuration tree as the Dunmer largely seem to revere(or at least used to) their ancestors and generally seem to dislike necromancy.

Archery also fits well with the race, and it is a part of the Morrowind Battlemage build.

This, has always been the case. Take this to heart with your Dunmer.

Dark Elves also make very good Battle Mages. They are very talented with weapons and magica.

Looking at Morrowind, I'd say that a lore-friendly Dunmer could be literally anything. Maybe make up your mind if your Dunmer belonged to one of the great houses in the past and set him up accordingly? For instance, if you want to play a former member of House Telvanni, then you would obviously focus on being a mage; or a House Hlaalu member would go more the rogue way. But Morrowind also had simple farmers or miners who were only affiliated with one of the great houses by accidentally living in their spheres of influence.
