Skyrim Fail #138: Can't Name Potions

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:38 am

My simple question is, why not?

It was helpful to give my potions names based off of the character I was roleplaying or the use I had for the potion. I liked naming poisons things like "snowfire toxin" if it had fire and frost damage. Alchemy itself is more or less fine, but I dislike that a feature I (and presumably others) liked has been removed for no reason.

We can name enchanted items how we see fit, but we cannot name potions. It does not make sense.

What do you guys think? Discuss! :starwars:

Uhh...hold on, why did you tag this with "star wars?" This has nothing to do with that franchise.

He does that with every thread (lately, at least). I think chunky might be a huge SW geek. :)

PS I'm going to go all "crafting is IMBA" on you, chunky, and say that you shouldn't be using alchemy because it's "broken". You can stack poisons on top of each other (arrows work nice) to give super-vulnerabilities to your opponents, and then one-shot even ancient dragons with one spell. :)

Then you bring a VERY valid point.... Why are we able to name enchantments and not be able to name potions and even weapons and armor? ....... FAIL

If you're on a PS3, you can press triangle (I think it's triangle) while enchanting items to give it a custom name.

Dang, so nothing for PC then.

No, it's for PC, too... when Enchanting items, after you get to the last stage (you've selected: item, enchant, soul gem) look at the bottom of the screen. I think the default key is "F" to rename an item.

It says "Rename Item" right on the screen when enchanting (Have to have item, soul gem, and enchantment selected first). How do people miss things like this?

I agree with the OP. It is a small change, but it made no sense to remove it. Then again you can't get nearly as many cool potion combos in Skyrim as you can in Oblivion so it might not matter.

I've noticed this as well. I miss silence or light potions. :(

Not even an issue.

Unless you liked that feature. There is literally no argument against its implementation.

Seriously, how can you defend everything Bethesda does?

I'm talking about this specific issue. What argument can you possibly have against the ability to name potions?

I liked the idea to name your potions. It was fun to roleplay, I also set up some of my named potions in my house.

To some above yes you can name your enchantments, it should tell you what to press in the lower left hand of the screen. It says rename item.

So make a set list of potions ALA New Vegas, except you don't see the list. BRILLIANT!

Oh, and you cannot change the name, because you cannot change the bottle either. :P
