The Peace Treaty

Hey so I'm starting my second playthrough as an Imperial and I heard about the season unending quest which is pretty bugged and would like to get some info before I make any major decisions. My first time through I sided with Ulfric and finished the civil war before the main quest and wasn't even aware of the possibility of a truce.

So whats the best way to get it started while avoiding any bugs. I will ultimately side with the Imperials but I would like to experience this truce. So do I start the imperial civil war quest line and hold on to the jagged crown until the Greybeards ask me to negotiate or not start it all? Do I start it and not complete any quests for them or complete only some? The wiki wasn't very clear on this and hope some here have some advice.

Honestly, your BEST bet is to read up on it on UESP.net - seems to be the best info available. I fumbled my way through it accidentally on one toon. Later, I followed the info on uesp.net, and had no issues at all.

Thanx I'll check it out.

If you avoid the Civil War Quests you should be fine.

I read that there is a major bug that occurs if you DON'T start the civil war quests. I'm confused now. Is there anybody that followed the Imperials AND attended the truce, without any bugs?

I used Season Unending to work around one of the infamous quest-stopping bugs in the Civil War questline (Imperial Side). I also had to nominally agree to join the Imperials to progress Season Unending on one of my more neutral playthroughs. I've done Season Unending without issue on the Imperial side before going after the Jagged Crown and after the Battle of Whiterun.

I played all three scenarios on three playthroughs. First with Imperials, then Stormcloaks. The next time through I avoided any civil war quests and never allied with either side. I stumbled into the peace talks by accident and was blown away because I had never heard of that option. The closest I came to joining a side was with Ulfric where the dialog options seem to steer you into joining him, but you can opt out at the last minute and invite him to the peace talks. I had no bugs but I don't think you can join either faction or the talks are off,.

My second character went to the peace talks. (I was never given the option for my 1st.) During them the only options which were reasonable ended up seeming like I was for the stormcloaks but I was on the imperial side of the war. Buggy as all hell.

I did this without joining sides on the civil war, and it worked like a charm.

That helps a lot. As well as everything else the others said, thanx. Damn bugs. Some small, some huge, and some mutated multi-clawed monstrosities.
