Ulfric saved my ass!

My respect for the man has doubled just now. We are all heading up to high hrothgar to start up the Season Unending quest. Instead of using fast travel I decided to toggle along. We (Ulfric, Elisif
and I) was between Alchemist's Shack and Haemar's Shame when all of the sudden an assassin from the Dark Brotherhood popped up out of nowhere, and started attacking me. I generally like to fight alone because my followers seems to get in the way, and I didn't want to have to re load the game because of an accidental friendly hit. I am on master level so I was obtaining a lot of damage hits from the assassin. Elisif was in the damn way so I couldn't attack the bastard like I wanted to and all of the sudden I heard a thu'um coming from Ulfric and the bastard went flying to which it wand up killing him. Ulfric then said "That takes care of that".

Ulfric =BOSS

I still don't understand why people here hate him so much. Oh well :D

Lol, well if it makes Ulfric seem more awesome in your eyes, who is anyone else to contradict this. Thats one of the beauties of a TES game, things like that can really endure characters to a player. Of course, any follower would do the same ultimately, but thats not the point. I say buy Ulfric a flagon of mead the next chance you get. I still owe Tullius a Snickers for the last time he had my back :D

I owe Derkeethus, despite being useless at higher levels, he's pulled some pretty amazing saves out of his ass for me.

On my current character I just finished up the CW on the Stormcloak side and decided, for gits and shiggles, to pretend that I and my loyal follower Erik the Slayer had been appointed Ulfric's personal guard when he left Solitude and headed back to Windhelm after the final battle. It was tedious going at first, I don't know if he's scripted to spend a lot of time just standing around admiring the scenery or what in order to make it seem like his trip takes longer than it ought to, but eventually once we got over into the Pale he pretty much motored on home from there at a steady pace.

Anyway, to get to the OT part of this post... he didn't take the main road out of Solitude down through Dragonbridge and past Morthal, he went around by the docks and the warehouse and then walked out to the water's edge just south of where the Dainty Sload is moored and swam/waded his way across to the opposite shore from there, and took the path that runs east/west past High Gate Ruins. There are a couple of small islets in there that he made use of in order to wade/walk instead of swimming all the way, but the last stretch is pretty much open water.

Because of his interminable dilly-dallying in a couple of spots on the Haafingar side of the bay, I was RPing that I was scouting ahead to make sure the road was safe (assuming I was guessing right about what path he would follow). In the course of doing that and using the Wait function to advance time until he would actually start moving again, I lost track of him a couple of times. I'm on PC so when that happened I used player.moveto and bounced myself right to his current location.

One of those times dumped me right in the middle of all that open water in the bay. The thing loads and I'm under water, I'm trying to swim up to get my head out to look around, I can't see Ulfric at all, and suddenly I realize I'm under attack. I can't do anything in the water, Erik has popped up behind me and is even farther from the shore, so he's no help. So I just start swimming like mad for the nearest land I can see. Then... suddenly... I hear the thunderclap of Ulfric's shout coming from somewhere. Next thing I know, two dead slaughterfish come floating by and the attack is over. :lmao:

And here's the crazy thing: Ulfric was in the water too, but still able to engage in combat. Now I've never tried to shout from the water so I don't even know if it's possible, but I always assumed it wasn't so I was wondering how the hell he did it. Then I see him, and he's not swimming. He's wading, i.e. walking upright. He's about waist deep... in the same water that was too deep for me and my follower to do anything but swim through.

Make of that what you will. He may not walk on water, but he sure came pretty darn close.

Hmmm... how come that Elisif was walking to High Hrothgar together with you and Ulfric?

I accompanied Ulfric to High Hrothgar at one point on an older character as well. We lost Gamal pretty early on, somewhere near Morvunskar he had disappeared. Ulfric then surprised me by taking the scenic route to High Hrothgar - he did NOT head towards Ivarstead. Instead, he walked past Valtheim towards Whiterun. Well, then we ran into the Whiterun guards near Honningbrew Meadery, and Ulfric and them didn't really fancy each other. I refused to help him at this point because I had grown tired of the journey already due to his slow walking speed, and Ulfric alone couldn't do jack against the two guards. I sort of abandoned him at that point and fasttraveled to High Hrothgar, where Ulfric and Gamal miraculously materialized themselves as well.

Him going Fus Ro Dah on a cave bear had been a very pretty sight though, indeed.

Doing the walk up to High Hrothgar for Season Unending as an escort mission from one of the start points (Solitude or Windhelm) as opposed to simply fast travelling there is something I recommend everyone try at least once. All the players are essential but weak vs heavy opposition so you can witness some rather hilarious battles. When Tulius, Elisif, Rikke, and Elenwen went past the Falkreath Stormcloak camp and later on through Ivarstead it was pure comedy. In town, the guards there didn't take kindly to Imperials wandering through their town and I ended up witnessing a massive free for all with everyone going at it. Some of the battle and the aftermath screenshots:

Afterwards, we had a peaceful walk with all of us up the 7000 steps:

Although that was fun, this meeting probably wasn't:

If you haven't tried to do this part of that quest without fast travel, I suggest you try it at least once as it's lots of fun.

Yeah some followers are great. Once I was traveling with Anneke Crag-jumper and we ran into a sabre cat. I had my music turned off so I didn't hear the battle music and only heard the roar of the cat dying. When I turned around it was already dead with an arrow through the back of the head, sticking out of it;s mouth lol. She's quite dealy with a bow.

Between you and I..... I think theirs something going between Ulfric and Elisif. That's why he didn't have her killed or exiled after the battle of solitude.

Can you talk to thralls like in the picture?

Genuine question, never used a thrall.
