Hypothetical situation

If there was to be an all out war between the Thalmor and the other provinces and empire, (concerning skyrim) do you think that the greybeards/parthy would have any sort of involvement?

Just something i wondered while chatting on top of the throat of the world.

It depends. If the Greybeards are threatened then I would assume they would defend themselves but I dont think they want to get involved in the affairs of the province and so on. They prefer to stay up at the top of their mountain and meditate on the Way of The Voice. I would imagine though if they were persuaded by the Dragonborn to help then they would assist him/her with defending Skyrim, though how far that assistance would go is debatable.

No. The greybeards stick to their own. They don't even care that all of Skyrim is being engulfed by civil war.

their entire philosophy is built around non-interference unless it involves dragons and the like. They would not interfere unless attacked, and then its only debatable about how far they will go in their defence.

Aye but they did get involved in the main quest were they held a peace conference between the Stormcloaks and the Empire. They intervened then, with a bit of persuasion and I think that they could be persuaded to intervene again, should the need arise.

I was just wondering because if the entire land was threatend with enslavement, I'm sure that the dragons would at least defend Skyrim, considering it is kind of their land too?

They intervened because the Dragonborn asked it, and then the only thing they really did was host the peace summit as they were the most valuable location. Every other location would seem to favor one side or the other, and even then they felt awkard doing it. The Greybeards would never involve themselves in a war, the whole reason they live like that is to avoid war. At most they would kick enemies down the mountains, but that's about it.

True, but I do believe that the Thalmor wont just sit by and let the Greybeards exist at the top of the mountain. If the Thalmor were to move into Skyrim and wage a war against them, killing everyone they come across that is not an elf then eventually the Greybeards would be all thats left and I'm almost positive that the Thalmor wont just let them exist in peace. They will attack them and eventually they will defeat the Greybeards, even if they have to starve them out. Because of this I think the Greybeards would join the fight in defending Skyrim, even if its simply to defend their mountain. I dont think the Greybeards would leave Skyrim, at most they would help drive the Thalmor out before retreating back to their mountain, they would not push on and take the attack to the Thalmor's homeland. They wont be happy with it but I do think that the Greybeards are wise enough to see that if they do nothing then they will be defeated. They need to choose a side.

I'd just like to see Odahviig roast a few thalmor, also the look in their eyes when they realise he listens to you.

I imagine the Thalmor arriving at Skyrim and trying to kill the Dovahkiin to break their enemies' battle morale. The Dragonborn would hop on his gravity defying horse, gallop up at a mountain side then shout "B*tch, puh-lease..." at which point an army of dragons leaded by Odahviig would come and cook the elves alive.

My immediate thought was "no". They seem to let the world live on its own?

I still think they won't. Strategically what you say makes sense. Strategically however it would also make sense for them to support the worship of Talos, seeing as he was a Dragonborn. Strategically it would have made sense for them to fight in the great war... They won't act and should the Thalmor ever get what they want then they will die.

No. It would surprise me if they even know about the war.

Personally I think they would be willing to fight if they are reminded that if the people of Skyrim fall then their order will go with it. When you clarify that the only option left is to die, then fighting is usually the choice they will go for. Even Paarthunax will attack you if you assail him, if he were truly such a pacifist he would have likely stood there and have been killed.

Paarth in many ways seems to be more in favor of taking actions then some of the greybeards. Depending on your conversation options they might not even want to let you talk to him... Or don't think it's a smart decision at least. The speaking guy (forgot his name) even argues for letting the world end, so I don't think he worries that much about dying.

I'd say rather, based on the theory that the Throat of the World is one of the pillars that holds the Mundus up, they will see a Thalmor invasion coming and try to defeat that. But further than that? Don't think so. They are followers of the Voice, no seers.

What about the warriors from sovngarde? Theyre all waiting for an epic battle, i think that would be pretty cool.
