Ok everyone, I have a level 60 imperial and here's my story of getting screwed by this quest. I have been playing on this character for some time. I've played the main quest line, the dark brotherhood, the thieves guild, and part of the mages college. I started this quest a very long time ago but never went past talking to the guard at the crime scene. I didn't know what the quest was, what the rewards were, or who was involved, I just left it in active in my log. So cut to me doing odd jobs for the thieves guild, I get a job to pickpocket viola giordanos diamond. I head to windhelm and attempt the job, she catches me picking her pocket and attacks me. Not knowing who she is or how crucial my conversation with her would be in getting the most epic house in skyrim, I murder her. So when I found out what the quest was I decided to do it, and I went and started following the objectives, when I hit the roadblock of talking to her about the butcher I recalled my past misdeeds and uttered quite a few obscenities. I looked it up and found that there is supposedly a fix for my delima in patch 1.5 for the PS3, so I updated. I reloaded the save from before I started to work on the quest (the quest was active and viola was dead, I just haven't done any objective in this save) and went through the same objectives and hit the same roadblock. I know who did it and who is supposed to be accused, I even wandered around windhelm enough to discover I can pickpocket calixcos key and rummage the chest in his shop where I found a signed confession and possible the murder weapon. Logically I should be able to say he did it and wrap this quest up, but I'm still stuck with jorlif an the guards telling to talk to the stupid [censored] who wouldn't just give me her diamond.

So I ask this forum to either tell me I'm an idiot and give me the correct way to solve this quest (cause according to patch notes, her death isn't suppose to render this quest incompletable) or I implor bethesda to implement this fix in the next patch; make it possible to turn in the evidence obtained from calixcos chest to solve the murder and/or put a journal that discusses her suspicions on the identity of the murder on violas dead body/coffin (or nightstand to avoid a bug where someone ate her as a werewolf and can't acces the prior)
