Ever Get the Feeling Skyrim Hates you?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:03 pm

This is gonna be kind of drawn out but bear with me please....

Ok so my favorite toon i have ever made on Skyrim is my Khajiit Darq'Raze for many reasons that i wont get into. Anyways i joined the Thieve's Guild but the Quest Scoundrel's Folly was bugged and made the quest line incompletable so the entire playthough was ruined EVEN THOUGH i had accomplished an enormous ton of stuff including completing the DB questline with nothing but illusion magic and poison pickpocketing.
So i restarted the Toon so that i could do it right this time. This time i am saving the TG for when my sneak, illusion, and pickpocket skills are more developed. So until then i am going to do radiants for the Companions. So not only does the Trial mission (not gonna spoil anything) annoy me because Farkas is incompetent and gets downed by ever skeever, spider, and glorified bandit we encounter but when i finally get my 1st Hired Muscle radiant it gives me an uninteractable target.
A crew member of the Red Wave ship: He never leaves the ship and i cannot start a conversation because when you pick him he says "You are not supposed to be here"... I know it is not possible to reroll this radiant but WTF Skyrim? Why do you megaloathe me so very much? Surely somebody else is getting spit on as much as i am?

I feel for you. I'm on pc, and the only reason that I got through two of the Thieves Guild quests, despite the glitches, was that I made frequent use of console commands, the Skyrim Wikipedia, and the Cheats, Hints and Spoilers forum here. I haven't had much trouble of that kind since--so far. Have you tried the Skyrim Wikipedia? It frequently gives workarounds for PS3.

The Red Wave inhabitants saying "You're not supposed to be here" is unfortunately a bug. I was able to solve it with the console (and got shocked about how much they actually could tell me), but I'm afraid you're pretty much screwed.

The only times I feel that Skyrim has an abject hatred for me is when I'm running across the plains west of Whiterun and a dead Dragon falls on me and kills me...

Well i worked around at some cost. I punched the guy, angered his crew, and fled from the ship. Once outside i sheathed my claws and they forgave. So i did the conversation before he re-entered the ship. I got a bounty for assault though. I shouldnt have to stretch the damn rules to complete a radiant of all things

That sort of thing can be annoying.

The one and only time I did the TG quests for the trophies, they were constantly on the edge of freaking out, people not talking, markers not there.
I got them done, thank goodness.

The quests go wrong and break sometimes.

Blood On The Ice has only worked once for me.
The rest of the time, completely broken.

The last time Esburn nearly froze unlocking his door. :(
Stood there, and he's doing nothing, for ages.

Last time, at the end, I had 2 working mischellanious quests, 2 working side quests, the MQ, which I had no intention of doing, stuff I was never going to do, and the rest was completely broken.
The Companions radiant quests nearly broke, they all disapeared for days after sending Kodlak to sovngarde.
It said, ask companions leaders for work. No markers, no one there, for over 4 days.

I had the main quest break on me, but that was a long time ago. Only recent thing I've had to gripe about is, well, a radiant quest sent me into a dungeon to retrieve a shield. I went there, only to find a locked gate and the key didn't re-spawn. Had to go back to my house to get the key. Ran back into the dungeon and got to the end, only to find another locked door, sans key, so I had to leave the dungeon again in order to get the key. Keys really should re-spawn, or at the very least, dungeon doors shouldn't get re-locked.

The game used to bug out on me all the time until I got Xbox Live and was able to download all the patches. In 4 characters I had the MQ bug out and become incompletable twice. I almost threw the game away. Fortunately though it seems to have stabilized with the patches. So that might be the problem. If you're not on Xbox Live then try to get it. If you are... then it svcks. I feel your pain.

I like to keep my inventory free of any and all clutter. I store all of my keys in my nightstand. If there had been a key ring and all of the keys just took up a single inventory slot, I might have kept them.

shyrim does not hate you.....more than it hates everyone else.

we all have had our trials and broken quests. the trick is to save often and reload when it turns to crap.

in skyrim as in life...... sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you.

i am playing on the XBOX with no patches at all.

The first time a quesline broke me for was last week, actually. I was doing the Civil War for the Imperials, and when it came time to liberate Winterhold Rikke had no dialogue choice to continue the quest, nor was there any console wizardry that could help. So i had to to console the Liberation of Skyrim finished when i was only halfway trough

It caused some problems later in the main questline, Jarl Blagruuf though that the war still going on, so i had to console the quest forward to make him think the cease-fire had been agreed upon.

No guild has ever broken for, neither has the main quest. Not bad, especally for a Beth game. I played over 800 hours before the first major quest bug :hehe:

It svcks but many quest have the potential to break. It maybe luck but its like some of the 'bugs' are there on purpose.

And speaking of the game hating you, I like keeping npc's alive, the game knows this, so almost every time I travel to a mill, a village a friendly mine or an open city, a dragon shows up and specifically kills the npcs who I would prefer to keep alive more than others. They're a damn nuisance and their pointless i think, just there to piss you off and kill your random encounters and npcs. Challenge? my left nut.

This is a very common bug, I have encountered it on all my playthroughs so far.
There is a way around it though.

During the main quest you will have to trap a dragon in a castle. If the civil war is not yet complete, a meeting for a truce is neccesary to be able to do this.
During this meeting, territory can exchange hands.
Since Winterhold is the last hold you have to capture in the civil war, it will be the only territory that can change hands.
Choose that option, et voila, you now have the hold without fighting for it.

Now you can continue the civil war storyline :)

Its a bit of a shame that I have never gotten it to work properly, as I would really have liked to skip that meeting and just get to the point where I can kill Ulfric. I dont like him.
