Help with destruction-focused mage

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:06 pm

hi guys is there anyone out there who have tried to build almost pure destruction? I am wondering what i should put perks into as i have several left over perks. What would be good compliments to this type of build?

It's pretty mandatory to have some sidekick skill to accompany you. Restoration magic is pretty much granted, but I personally use Conjuration to back up my Destruction. Bound sword in the right hand, hurling fireballs from the left.

As Faralda of the guild says, Destruction mage must decide whether he focuses on just one or all types (fire/lightning/frost) or all.

Alchemy or enchanting. Either refill your magicka or reduce the cost to cast them. Running out of magicka is pretty much the #1 enemy of destruction mages.

Also some skill to deal with multiple enemies who will otherwise bum rush you. Possible alternatives are illusion with calm/frenzy or conjuration with atronachs. Although with conjuration you don't really need to spend any perks, just learn the spells.

Restoration and Alteration. I find paralyse and wall of fire work well together, and you can kill pretty much anything in the game with dual casted firebolts using the impact perk and augument fire.

This is what i use for destrruction focused mage. I dont use Illusion or Conjuration. Having both flame/shock spec you'll have less problems when fighting specific resistant enemies. Making destro reduction gear helps greatly.

Alteration definitely. Paralyze + Huge defense bonus + Magic resist + Spell absorption.

I'd even go as far as saying it's the best magic school out there, except you cant kill anything with it

My mage only uses the novice level heal spell (enhanced via the double effect of healing perk) because Alteration covers the defenses so well.
