The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller ?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 11:45 am

I am in that tomb, have come to a place where I am supposed to a gate, there are several moveable "gates", guess I am supposed to use the shout Whirlwind Sprint, after acticating the 3 stones, have tried several times, just not fast enough, always getting stopped by the first of those moveable gates, is there any way of getting past those, a console command or something, tired of sprinting in vain by now

As I recall it's a matter of timing. I think you have to hit the pillars running, and run right up to the first gate, then Whirlwind.

The way I do it is to sprint past all 3 switches and when I get close to the gates, I do whirlwind.

On the PC I found it tricky to hold down W + Alt to sprint and then press Z for whirlwind. Is there any way to toggle sprint?

"The way I do it is to sprint past all 3 switches and when I get close to the gates, I do whirlwind."

That sounds like it will leave my follower behind? Either way I have had no luck with this at all  .

I have pretty much cleaned out all the "baddies" up until the 3 glowing rocks and gates. I've thought about getting out, going home to change into lighter armor (maybe I'll be faster through the 3 switches?) and leave my follower at home. I have a funny feeling that once I get through the 3 gates, I will be wishing strongly for my Orcish armor and Lydia's help, however  .

Any more ideas on this part of this quest?

Have your follower wait somewhere away from the stones or the follower will set them off as s/he follows you.
Position yourself so you are facing the middle of the gates and will go straight when you run.
Run or run and sprint (I usually don't bother to sprint. It doesn't seem to make much difference.) until you are about halfway through the space between the stones and the gates. It may take several tries.
Once you are through all the gates they will stay open and you can go get your follower.

I could be wrong (it's been a while) but I think you can trigger whirlwind sprint twice in a row during this little bit of the quest. I remember having trouble with it myself, and then being suprised when I accidently activated the sprint twice in succession, with no cool down.

Finally got it. I actually stumbled upon a space between the first 2 stones that opened them both! I started my sprint from there, having 2/3 of the battle already won. It took a few tries to get lined up correctly and get my sprint timed right, but got there eventually. Lerf1950 is correct that, once through, the gates stay open even when you return to get your follower (I'd read some conflicting evidence on that part).

Onward!

Thanks gang.

This. I save right before I activate the third stone. Then I do Whirwind Sprint and it takes me most of the way so I hit the shout again immediately and get all the way through. It isn't easy though. :tes:

You dont have to touch the stones, just run in between the stones right at the gates, when they are all open, pop whirlwind and keep sprinting afterward.

It never took me more then the first try. Xbox player though, no pc.

Sprint in between the stones and when you get to the third activate whirlwind sprint.

If you're having difficulty pressing sprint and then shout, you can toggle auto move 'c'. All you need to do is back away from the stone, press c so your character run forward, hold alt near the stones to start sprinting and finally press z near the door without releasing alt.

I should have mentioned that I'm on Xbox, I think. AFAIK the only "sprint" (as opposed to "whirlwind sprint shout") on the XBox is just how far you push the left stick forward? Or am I missing something?

Anywho, got through that PITA part.

Took ages. Keep just to the right of the left hand pillars when you sprint. This is the hardest puzzle in the game , you just have to keep trying.I did it at the time without the sprint just before the whirlwind sprint, so it is do -able

I run past the pillars, and then Whirlwind as soon as the last gate rises. It always works. I get the impression that if you are past the first gate and Whirlwind-sprinting then the gates won't close until you pass the last one: I've had then try to come done on me before when I miss-timed it. But only if you are Whirlwind-sprinting.

Sprint by walking and then holding LB (sprint isnt unlimited, the higher the stamina, the longer the sprint. Base stamina is enough for the dungeon though, just pop whirlwind when the gates open. Sprint in the meanwhile.)
