First MAJOR Disappointment in Game

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:44 pm

This quest, The Mind of Madness, is about as sorry as it gets. I've read the spoiler and it still doesn't work, the jerks who thought this one up need a reduction in pay and maybe they should be caned too. Sorry Sorry...

Did it break? I guess the Prize is sort of lame, i mean it doesn't seem to do much.

Though I did run into a Madwoman who begged to be zapped. Alas, i didn't have the weapon with me, so I don't know what would've happened.

I love the Wabbajack, it's hilarious...and has the potential to 1 hit kill just about anything if you're lucky, or turn them into a pile of gold coins (lol).

The actual quest is sort of lame, I agree. I find that most quests that go beyond the ordinary are poorly worked out. This includes many of the guild quests (and thete are already too few guild quests).

When they stick to the basics that is supported by the gameplay than it is great, but if they try to do something 'special' than it feels limited by the game structure.

I go there, the area where it looks like a gladiator pit is easy, then the one where you are supposed to build his confidence just doesn't work by making him big and killing the others, the one where he's sleeping you are supposed to continue to shoot that sheep till he wakes up...

Actually, the quest buildup is kind of cool. You get to know Solitude a bit, you need Pelagius's hip bone, which is rendered really nicely, and was interesting to collect. Doing the puzzles was sort of silly, though.

Everyone should read the 8 Wolf Queen books before doing that quest.

It's not Skyrim, it's you.

Spoiler
The trick is that shooting just one guy will not work. You need to shoot the confidence character while it makes him grow and the bully while it makes him shrink. How hard can it be?

First Major disappoint was magic in general. So few spells, so little access to get the few that are available, no spell creation, a mage pretty much wears one of two outfits for the entire game. For someone who would like to primarily play mages, the game was a huge let down in the magic department. Unfortunately, the CK is still not available to correct those mistakes either.

Daedric prince of madness, how rational did you want it to be :)

OP would be even more disappointed with the fetch quests, especially the civil war questline. which is basically a chain of fetch quests.

I thought the mind of madness was fine. That probably means I'm due for an insult or something, but what exactly was wrong with it?

with all the rote quests in this game, that one was actually OK.

the mad God's dialoque was a little forced at times....not a big issue. Perhaps the quest was a little forced, felt too contrived? Anyway, I was glad to see him again, though wondered if that was me, since I'd finished Shivering Isles of course, found it unlikely I would have adoped his accent and craziness. But they couldn't really have a sane madgod, could they?

They are moving on as if nothing in Shivering Isles happened.
How about a madgod quest where he is sane, but needs help with an insane situation?

After the events in Oblivion, the protaganist there should have been proclaimed a God himself. He saved the world, became head of all guilds, and crowned madgod. And he was the holy crusader as well....

If they wanted to stick to game reality, maybe they shouldn't have used the madgod at all. (Don't tell me the licensed novels about ES's deals with this issue?)

I found the confidence bit to be buggy as well--I got through it finally, but I couldn't even tell you what order I had to zap them in to finally make the quest progress. Walkthroughs weren't really helpful.

Yeah, I think this is kinda spoilerish. But saying that - for me, The Mind of Madness was my first disappointment as well. The lead up was great, but the part with the nightmares - I'm a little on the slow side, but took me ages to figure that out. At the end I just wanted to get out of there. There wasn't any real clue for me as to what to do and I got irritated by it. But then - the title of the quest makes a whole lotta sense.
