Obtaining Ebony Armor? : V

To my understanding, there are two ways of obtaining the full Ebony Armor set:

1. Level Smithing up to 100, and have the Ebony Smithing Perk.
2. Collecting it from fallen enemies after level 22.

Any other ways of obtaining the Ebony Armor set?

Also, what is now the best way to level up smithing (since the Iron Daggers have been fixed)?

I have only found a few pieces of good armor while playing the game. I don't think I could have obtained a full set of Ebony if I was just relying on Loot for my source. I had to buy two of the pieces. Also, the Ebony always seemed to come enchanted, and those enchantments never suited my characters.

I tend to find it and don't really smith it. Smithing lv has to be 70-80 though? 100 is dragon and deadric is below it.

Since iron daggors got fixed

Its taking me a lot longer to smith my way to 100.

Now I did encounter a merc outside Windhelm (If I remember correctly) and she was wearing a full set of ebony armor. I killed her and took it. Boots, helmet, gloves and main piece.

Smithing/Enchanting/Alchemy just seems to take a long time to level up as compared to everything else.

Then again... I could always get someone to train me in Smithing.

Mercenaries will have a full set of Ebony, at least the two I have come across in the game. I have not seen them at low character levels, so I am not sure if they always have Ebony. I saw my first Merc when I my character was in the 30's.

You will need it anyway as stock Ebony needs to be improved to be worth while.

Well that's good to know. I'm going for a deathknight sort of character, and Ebony Armor seems to be the best set to use. I figured Daedra Armor would be good to use too, but I think Ebony looks better for a Deathknight.

There's a generic High Elf on the path to the Morrowind border that's always worn Ebony Armor, but I'm normally a higher level when I go there (at least level 30+)

My light-armor characters always find ebony armor pieces and weapons all over the place, but my heavy armor characters hardly find any. The game likes to mess with me that way. It's happening right now - I've found tons of Orcish, Dwarven and Ebony, enough for complete sets of each + weapons, but only a single Glass helmet. At least I can kill Thalmor for Elven.

And my HA followers look nice.

Ebony perk is 80, but, yeah, it's still a climb. :confused:

Keep in mind that the Daedric items require the heart of a formerly living being so it may be more Deathknightish than Ebony - Ebony is more Black Knightish. :tongue:

Plus, with the red glow and horn-like affectations...

Do the boithea quest, or whatever its called. The guy has a full set of ebony armor.

Ebony can be obtained quite easily. Just turn up your diificulty to have it spawn at lower levels.

I don't think difficulty affects anything besides incoming and outgoing damage.

It's amazing what a pickaxe, iron ore deposit and a transmute spell can accomplish for your everyday adventurer with a jewelry making hobby.

Of course, iron ore is also usually offered on the cheap by blacksmiths.

This^ is a good idea. I've always smithed heavily but have never concentrated on jewelry. I think I'll do that this time around. It's lightweight and can make you lots of $, especially if you enchant the stuff.

Yes, slowly. Since it's usually the only Alteration my character does, though, it's noticeable for me.

I can do this one or two ways:
1. Raid, loot, and make profits off of dungeons (my usual method to make money). Then use the money to train in Smithing by the trainers.
2. Clear Xbox cache, and do the Iron Dagger exploit. This made the game un-fun last time I did this, so I don't know...

Depends how fast you want to get the ebony armor.

As I mentioned above, a pick, iron ore deposit, transmute spell ... all of which are available in the same spot fairly close to Whiterun ... and jewellry making can be extremely helpful in getting your smithing up, not to mention the gold you get for selling the jewelry ... even more if you, as another poster suggested, enchant it (and help your enchanting level as well) first.

And for me at least, it felt like less of an "exploit" going this route ... or at least I found it easier to rationalize than making hundreds of iron daggers.

Lots of iron deposits in Skyrim.

I usu clear out Gloombound Mine (ebony) every ingame month or so and the special ones (Malachite, Moonstone, etc) when I come across them. Also, you can mine Soul Gems in Blackreach. Additionally, you will occasionally get gems from all types.
