Your methods to making money?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 8:38 pm

On my Mage character, I use the Transmute spell.
I buy iron ore from vendors, transmute it to gold ore.
Smelt it.
Make 'gold necklaces' and 'gold rings'.
I then sell some, the rest I enchant. (for extra value and enchanting practise)

I also make a batch of potions from the ingredients I've collected on each trip, I keep most of them, but sell the ones useless to me.

Trust me, this earns you LOTS of gold.
I don't grind it, because it takes the fun away, it's like a routine everytime I rest up at a city :P

At the moment, my way to make money are the quests given by Vex and Delvin. The cutthroat merchants on the "hard" setting of that mod make them too cutthroat to be a viable source for a lot of coin.

Currently a warrior type. I just sell loot. I'll upgrade armor/weapons first just to get a little Smithing skill added, then sell.

Honestly I've never had any trouble making money in Skyrim when I make sure not to take everything not nailed down and just choose things that aren't very heavy but worth enough to make it worth my time. Even so, gold comes out of the walls in Skyrim, so I've never had a drastic need for any.

This. I've also included armor manufacturing from the manniquin exploit. :)

the banish enchantment is where the real money is...you can turn an iron dagger into thousands of septims with the banish enchantment but you need to put perks in speech for the riverwood trader to have 12,000 to buy your exspensive goods

Pick up iron dagger, fill petty gems. Enchant with banish. Profit.

I make money by the following:

1. Sell enchanted armour/weapons from dungeons
2. Sell any gems (garnets, diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubys, & their flawless counterparts) found in dungeons
3. Craft high level potions like fortify health worth 800+ septims each & other ones with stuff I find while explorering.
4. Sell any hides I find

Everything else I find like ores, bars, soul gems, interesting weapons/armour, strange & miscellania items I store in my manor in Solitude in case I'll need something in the upcoming Dlcs.

P.S. My character is maxed out 100 in every skill so I can make high level armour/weapons, enchant them, and make high potions. I have currently 2m in septims and alot more in items ready to be sold.

Go out, adventure for a few days. Return home, and force wife to hand over money. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Where are you guys finding people to buy this stuff? I am loaded with stuff I found, and I have 2 trunks full of items for sale. I've been to all the touns and it seems they only have about a thousand or so.
What's the deal? I haven't used any haggling perks or potions because if I get a better price for something then I have to find somewhere to stach what I didn't sell?

Please, what am I missing?

Alchemy. The ingredients are everywhere, and the potions are much lighter than dungeon loot. The potions made also keep my Nord healed.

Whiterun has at least 5 or 6 different merchants who can buy your stuff. Once you get your speech skill to 50, you can sell any item to any merchant. If you've managed to take all the merchants' money in Whiterun, then make the quick trip to Riverwood.

If you keep acquiring more loot and have no one to sell it to, then stop looting until you are able to unload everything. From time to time, I have to do that with my alchemy potions, when one potion can be all a merchant can buy from me. Just go do some quests or do a bit of exploring, then come back and unload your inventory once the merchants have more money.

And while I'm thinking of it, what happened to Alvor in Riverwood? He's not outside any more.

Most likely he's "locked" himself inside his own home. This is a persistant problem on certain NPCs. To get him to come out, you'll have to go inside his house, he'll then go outsided and resume everything as normal.

I went inside and he's not there. The only ones at home are the guy who helped me escape in the beginning and his wife. Daughter and father are gone.
I wish these people had names I could remember like Fred, or George. lol

Alvor, the blacksmith, is very vulnerable to dying if a dragon attacks Riverwood. He will charge at the dragon with his dagger and die quickly to dragon breath. Maybe that's what happened. But the daughter can't die. Strange.

Make invisibility potions. The ingredients are easy to get and the lowest level in Alchemy still makes them worth at least 100gp each.

Because she's a child. Bethesda has all the kids protected against abuse of any type, both in game and from PC's.
Thanks! I do remember killing a dragon in Riverwood. I bet that's what happened. Rats, he was a good guy too. And a good source of money.

Loot all you can and sell it, or stash it away for selling, buy any materials to upgrade them, sell, then continue.
