A bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Hello there!

I've been enjoing about 50 hrs of gaming so far, but I think enchanting / soul gem's might be bugged for me.
First of all: I'm running around with all kinds of soul gem's, but as soon as I kill something which I've cast soul trap upon (or kill with a weapon with that spell) I get the message that I haven't got a soul gem large enough. Right now I'm running aroung killing bandits, and i've got all kinds of gems with me.
That just doesn't sound right...

Secondly: how the heck do you recharge an item with a soul gem? I've just never seen the option, no matter how much I click the item / enchanting bench.

I'd be very greatful for replies that can shed some light of these questions.

Thanks!

Not sure on the first problem, Never encountered it, But the second, Simply go on your inventory, Go to an enchanted weapon and press RB (On xbox, Not sure for PC) and it will give you an option of which soul gem you can use.

IMO use small ones because you can get more free space :)

Bandits are mortals. You need a black soul gem. The other gems only work on 'white' souls, animals and monsters. You recharge from your inventory, not at the altar.

For humans you must have Black Soul Gems or The Black Star. For everything else, you will need a specific kind of soul gem based on the value of the soul. Harder/tougher enemies will require grand soul gems, where skeevers only require petty soul gems

To recharge them highlight them in your inventory then press R2/Righ Trigger/Wahtever it is on PC. It will object is able to be re-charged it will tell you at the bottom of the inv. screen.

You need a Black Soul Gem to capture any kind of human/elf/beastrace soul. The regular soul gems can only capture animals, undead and other creatures.

To Recharge a Weapon. select the Weapon, press T and then select the FILLED Soul Gem. (That's on a PC...)

Bandits require black soul gems which are quite rare compared to normal soul gems which can only hold creature souls but, as far as not having one big enough, as long as you've got all levels up to grand there shouldn't be a problem with it...

And for recharging if you are on ps3 it is done by using the R2 button while the item you want to recharge is selected in your inventory and it will prompt you to select which of your filled soul gems you would like to use and once you select it will fill the item with as much charge as that particular soul gem can give...

So it was I who weren't doing it right? Gee, what a surprise.
Just tried it all out, and it worked very well. Thanks alot for your time!

regarding the black gems i thought it was only for friendly NPC's, never thought it was all human characters. Got it all sorted out now, thanks!
