SpellBreaker Questions

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 6:08 pm

I just have a couple of questions regarding this ultra-badass shield of awesome:

1. What looks good with it? Say I use the cliche DawnBreaker sword with it... what armor would be best? I was thinking General Tullius' Armor + the golden Dragon Priest mask, but I'm still unsure (however, I'd like to use a DP mask if possible).

2. Do Restoration perks buff the shield's ward effect?

Thanks!

I'm wielding it with full dwarven armor, but that's partially a character thing (dwemer scholar).

It does look good with dragon priest masks, but I haven't seen it against other armors.

Well dwarven would look with it, seeing as how it's a dwarven shield. I haven't tried any dragon priest masks with it though.

I think I may be deciding against dragon priest masks. I don't know yet.

The character I have in mind is one who "worships" dragons, so to speak. This means that Talos, Peryite, and Akatosh are all valid subjects for him. I was thinking of the dragon priest mask for this reason, but it may not be vitally necessary. I'd like to mix and match heavy and light armor if possible. Dwarven armor is a good idea, but some of it is rather "bulky" for me.

I use the Spellbreaker all the time. From the moment I received it my character has never been without it. Not sure if Restoration perks boost the shields' capabilities or not but it's ward is plenty powerful. It use to completely block all dragon breath attacks but I've noticed since the latest patch that those break the ward at some point. Higher level mages slinging heavy hitting destruction break the ward in one shot most of the time. But that does not bother me as it recharges after a second or two. That shield is the reason I didn't invest hardly any perks in the block skill tree. No need for elemental protection when toting it. As far as looks it looks good with most any heavy or light armor. I either use ebony or dragon scale and I think it looks fine. It doesn't match any of them exactly but the guards comments on the shield are worth it...lol.

It would probably look pretty good with Glass Armor because of the way they both catch the light.

I dunno, it's really hard to look good when your have a radar dish strapped to your wrist, that said it is a nice shield and well worth the giant annoyances it took to obtain it.

I'm somewhat disappointed by the look of it in this game. It looked great in Oblivion, but in here I don't like how they essentially reversed the bowl/curved area of the shield to face outwards. It seems rather counter-intuitive.

How else are you gonna' get NFL Sunday Ticket? :o

Seriously though: it does look more like a Spell Reflector than a Spell Breaker. That would be sweet if if 'threw' the effect back onto the caster. :P

Indeed.

By the way, is there a way to get certain items past Exquisite or Flawless with smithing enchantments? They say you can only bring the Spellbreaker up to Flawless. I've already maxed out my smithing skill and perks, it'd be nice if I can get a potion or magical enchantment that lets me improve the shield up to Legendary.

Without Enchanted gear you'd have to use the Restoration Glitch to make a super-powerful potion.

With Fortify Smihing gear and a Fortify Smithing Potion you can make anything in the game Legendary without the Resto Glitch. You have to have max Enchanting and max Alchemy though. :P
