Rolling?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:57 pm

I'm sure someone must've asked this before, but the search didn't help ... whatever.

Just wanted to know what the sneaky roll ability from the sneaking perks is good for. I know it's a bit quicker than just sneaking if you do it repeatedly, but that cannot be it, can it?

It's good for rolling up and stabbing someone in the face with a stealth multiplier if you're quick enough, or dodging a blow when you foul up a sneak attack and an enemy is gonna hit you with a power attack before you can switch out of sneak mode.

You can do the roll (on xbox anyway), by jumping and holding down the sprint (or roll) button. Even without the perk, when you hit the floor you will do the sneak roll, must be a bug.

I think it's worth it, the animation looks terrible, but it is useful. If you use block though, don't bother, get the block perk for faster shield movement. Which also works when sneaking, then if you hold your shield up when sneaking you can move at normal running speed when sneaking.

If you take the last block perk, you can sprint in sneak mode with a shield up. Strange link between the two skills.

Haha yes! That perk is stupidly overpowered, why fight them if you can flip them over a cliff.

I believe the in game book Thief explains the value of rolling upon landing to lessen damage for someone who is nimble enough, so maybe that was intended. If it lessens fall damage I'm gonna say intended, if not it's prolly a bug.

Because Block is a [censored] to level up to 100. If I manage to master the skill, damn right I want something to make it actually worthwhile!

But I can do it in full steel plate armor? I understand your theory here, but I think it's probably a bug. It doesn't reduce fall damage.

Really? It levels up very fast for me. My warrior character's block was always higher than 1h, heavy armor and restoration (my main skills).

Though in skyrim it's perfectly fine to wear full plate as a thief, never quite understood that though. But if it doesn't reduce fall damage then I'm gonna say it prolly is a bug.

Isn't that the specialty of the Burglar class? Heavy Armored sneak?

You know those swinging knives in some of the Dungeons? I saw Lydia take a roll under those.

That might be an interesting thing to try, thanks. Other than that, it seems quicker sneacking is what it is.
