Marching Draugr

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:04 pm

While traveling, my character came across four draugr of various types marching down the road (two by two) near Forsaken Cave (I was heading North from Bronzewater Cave). They spotted my character and attacked. I have never seen this before. Has anyone else? Is it part of something special or a special encounter like the Headless Horseman? It was daylight too.

I have read reports of people who found draugr hanging around unusual above-ground locations, like right outside a city's gates, after the PC fast travels there. Not heard of any small detachments of them just marching down the road. Maybe they are new draugr recruits and didn't pass inpection and the drill instructor sent them out to do a forced march in full gear in broad daylight as punishment. :tongue:

Most unusual "on the road" encounter I've had was riding back from somewhere towards Whiterun, had just crossed over one of the bridges there at the crossroads down by the meadery. Some guy walking along the road in front of me, also towards the city. As I pass I hear him say "Is somebody there?" or one of the other standard bad guy lines that you hear when one of them detects you and is about to go aggro. Next thing I know he's attacking, by the time I stop and get off the horse the guards on the road are all going after him. I think I turned around and got one swipe in with my own weapon before he went down. When I searched him he was a Bandit Marauder or Bandit Chief, I can't remember which. Just walking down the road being a bandit with all those guards around and none of his crew to back him up. Not a very bright bandit, maybe that's why they all deserted him.

I had some necromancers traveling the road, once. I suspect they need to get from place to place just like we do.

What you really want is to pass by a group of Draugr marching down the road and overhear something like this...

"So, what's your story?"

"My cousin just up and disappeared one night. Rumor has it he was taken by some Akaviri dragon hunters. It wasn't long before I found myself under Morokei's banner..."

Yes, I've seen it but mine never became hostile. It was right after a patch in March. There were also massive spawns after fast-traveling. I think it all settles down though after we play for a while after a patch. Did you just get the 1.6 Beta? I have that but haven't seen anything unusual.

No mods, I play on a PS3.

@Kicenna - I don't have Patch 1.6 yet.

Interesting.

I've seen evidence of them out in the world... ancient nord weapons dropped beside a couple of dead bandits, but no Draugr themselves...
I remember I was greatly disturbed at the thought of them leaving tombs and roaming the countryside so I patrolled the whole area for about an hour with no luck.

Your post just confirms my suspicions... they're getting smarter. O.o

:::shiver::: A.I. is a scary thing. You think they'll figure out how to get out of my computer during the night when I'm asleep?

You reminded me that I have also seen ancient nord weapons lying around dead bandits and others. Interesting. My concern is that they can run around during the day.

You just made me have a Ringu flashback. If you feel someone hating you in about 4 hours from now, it will be me lying awake in bed with the covers over my head. :tongue:
