These spiders... yuck

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:31 pm

Ok so I notice a small frostbite spider wandering around a dungeon aimlessly. Naturally I string my bow take aim and end its unsettling life. I go over to its corpse to retrieve the arrow (and some well-spiritied teabagging), I was taunting it, yelling at it (at my computer screen) then...... it turns.... ACK! I was looking at the wrong spider!!!!! Euphhh. soooooo unsettling. THEN in my rage I kill a room full of spiders. Looking around at my accomplishments I feel so proud. Like Saint Jiub must have felt when he drove off the cliffracers. Once again my cockiness is my undoing. I turn around to see a GIANT nast abomination. Scared the hell out of me. I literally yelled like a littler girl. And let me clarify because alot of people like to use the word 'literally' metaphorically (*cough* rick perry *cough*) I screamed like a little, pig tailed, milk drinking child. Ugh. I applaud you skyrim for making my skin crawl and giving me a genuine fright. :)
Wow I sure went off on a tangent..... anyways anyone else have any (mis)adeventures with this horrible creatures?

Walked into a dungeon room and there was a spider in a web above me. I didn`t know until my follower started shooting at. then it dropped almost on top of me and attacked. Now I freaked out when a REAL spider dropped on my shoulder once when walking through a door way, so this didn`t help.

That was memorable.

Saw a few dead frostbites, along with a dead Draugr. Had to leap off a cliff to get to where they were below, and wondered what had went on until I realized that the entrance/exit to the dungeon was nearby (me returning from completing a quest) just that missed this little detour earlier, but must have unsettled the Draugr somehow with combat just outside this room.

Wild ones freak me out a bit. They like to keep their distance to poison you. I was just strolling along from Whiterun, heading east along the road, and one way far out across the following river was sidestepping in great paces. You know you have a reason to be afraid when going along an establish, often-trodden route enounters you a massive spider that can travel across open terrain at great speeds, and spot you from a good stretch away.

Man, gonna have to go load up one of my saves to try and find the name of this place... but :

Yesterday I was going around checking out dungeons, caves and such I hadn't been in and I come into this long tunnel. Starts off pretty tame, then spiderwebs start stacking on heavier the further I go. I'm all like, "Okay, this is a boatload of spiderwebs, this damned spider is gonna show up any..."

BAM

This Giant Frost Spider comes barrelling down the tunnel, blocking the path forward... and even though I know I can take him... I still turn and haul butt all the way to the exit freaking out like it was on fire and I was in some sort of Indiana Jones movie.

Really freaked me out, but not so much the way it looked... more to do with the way it was built up. Just didn't expect the thing to be so damned big, and come to think of it... if it was on fire I would have audibly shrieked.

It's nice to know that there are variable sizes. I haven't played long enough to determine that, but thanks for warning me about a possible scare. I'll make sure to keep my wits about if I end up trekking along a tunnel, encompassed in greater emounts of webs along the way.

That's always interesting.

I was surprised at how well they are animated when coming down on a web, it gets the hairs on my neck up and makes me have a little peak at every dark corner in my house.

Not that i'm afraid of little spiders or anything... :whistling:

Being an arachnophobe, I actually did not buy the game until:

Why do giant spiders HAVE to be in every RPG is beyond me. Anyways, until we have mods I'm fine.

I was a little disappointed by the spiders to be honest. I only get a slight chill at best when I find them in the caverns. I was hoping for better and more animations. Some death by spider animations would have been awesome i.e. being bitten, paralysed and dragged away to be wrapped up like a mummy  Yup, definitely not enough horror in Skyrim.

aww i love spiders <3

but a few (or should i say none?) did scare me in black reach. i was walking along (after just facing my worst nightmare, an army of wisps) when i came to a giant spider web where nothign would drop down on me. i never feel right when a place that should bb deadly just...isnt, it scares me because my imagination will always come up with the worst possible scenario and i start expecting it to happen (even the most unscary things scare me, if you put me in a nursery with nursery rymes playing [in a game, im not this paranoid in real life] i will huddle in a corner, pull out my weapon, and just wait for the big bad to appear  of course, nursery ryhmes being about death does not help that much)

I know exactly where you are talking about. Personally, I was more scared when I first encountered a Charus Reaper. Now I make sure to carry my Wabbajack with me at all times.
