What is your favourite picturesque spot in Skyrim and why?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:51 am

Just wondering where in Skyrim you have stopped and stared at a beautiful vista or at a spot that means something special to you, for me it is here: (sorry for pictures, had to take photo of screen, PS3 version! )

Which is located about here :

For me this is beautiful, it reminds me alot of the Scottish Highlands, yes cloudy and gloomy but at the same time amazingly picturesque! I can imagine shacking up here in RL and going out to hunt for food or climbing the nearest mountain for a better view :) Bethesda have done an amazing job, I can't believe how the land changes from one area to the next!

Where is your spot and why is it your favorite?

My favorite is a series of cascading waterfalls with autumn foliage, located along the river northeast of Ivarstead. Idk why but the moment I discovered this spot it became my favorite. :P

The hotsprings of the Eastmarch.

Would that be the hotsprings where those hunters like to strip down and bathe by chance, if so say no more

All you need is a nice Tent/Camp mod if you are on the PC version and you can make it your home :) I would love to have a nice warm fire-lit cabin in spots like this to retire too after a tough day battling dragons and fighting in the civil war :)

This is my favorite spot too. Nice view and you basically have a water slide for when you get bored.

Roughly half way up the 7,000 steps. The fog starts rolling in and you can see the apex of mountains shrouded in clouds, and the very miniscule town of Ivarstead below.

Every time I go up, I stare off into the distance and some snow wolf inevitably jumps me.

Everywhere.

But really, just west of Haafingar... the forested Mountains of that region and the lovely sheets of peeved snow...
I hadn't played far into the game yet. About 24 hours in, maybe more. So this choice is biased toward what I have not seen.

Many places. For me it's the sky. Anywhere when the Aurora out and shimmering. Throat of the World is a good place to watch it.

You will see sights that will make you sit and stare, especially if you decide to go mountain climbing :)

The view from Azura's shrine is incredible. Especially the cloud covered mountain to the north east.

Froki's shack and the view from there. Golden Forests and valleys of the Rift are just awesome.

I was really impressed by the hot springs (although I was real careful about getting in), but the heavy waterfalls i`ve seen have to be the best.

Although why are the waterfalls so horrible when you look at it underwater?

There's a fort not far from the Goldenglow estate (something Tooth something). It was a bandit hideout. Anyways, they have built a rig atop the fort tower, with a wicked balcony. I didn't notice the view at first, since by the time i had done battling it was near midnight. I rested in the bandit chief's bed, awoke, strolled out to the balcony at dawn...and was momentarily stunned irl

Yeah its quite freaky how you can be battling one second then stopping and staring in amazement the next, I did that the first time I saw the Auroras, I have never seen something like that implemented in a game, and certainly not as well as Bethesda did in Skyrim! Things like this add to the atmosphere of the game!

I love the Reach. The HUGE canyon vistas, enchanting flora, beautiful waterfalls, epic ruins dotting the magnificent canyon walls... did I mention the canyons?

The Reach, with the areas of flat(ish) moorland/tundra/whatever it is. Nice sense of desolation and loneliness. Did the collect a goat thing, could have sworn I could hear 'Wuthering Heights'.

I really like the Reach, its very atmospheric and was a complete surprise for me when I bought Skyrim as I didn't expect this sort of environment. There is something about it that also captures the Morrowind feel. The place has a nice mystique and very strange inhabitants.

For me, it was at the Guardian Stones looking west.

I saw the sun starting to set over the mountains in The Reach, and the colors struck and reflected off the lake that's near the stones. The view was nothing short of amazing. I said to myself "Once the CK get's released, my modded home is going to be on the shoreline across from the Guardian Stones".

everywhere.

its tough to pick just one, because the whole landscape of skyrim imo is so well made. The small details everywhere i explore is what keeps me coming back. When the weather changes everything changes its awesome.

Even the water and rapids have current that pulls you when trying to cross over, even on horseback. The rain drops on the water and the reflection of the sunlight on water.

harvesting is not a painful grind either. Its just done right imo the whole entire landscape.

I prefer the highlands tho, somewhere calm high up on the edge of a mountain where i can see the land and trees below with the sound of maybea river or fall near by. The landscape is and its design is just done right imo.

The one Dragon Wall point south of the hotsprings and north of the Rift, I find the view to be incredible especially with a clear night and Auroras bluring. Throat is also an incredible view at the top when clear.
