I just got a horse because I wanted to try this out, but its not working for some reason. I try to use my bow, or sword, and nothing happens. Is there another key or something? I'm on PC.

Ah never mind. It seems I was supposed to do the Beta update for this.

Mounted combat will be in the DLC but unless you mod it in yourself, it's not there to do. You might try looking to see if their is a mod out their that you can use.

No need for a mod; mounted combat will be in the 1.6 patch.

That's good to know, as I can't do mods anyway.

Are you saying mounted combat will be available before the DLC, or is the 1.6 patch just the patch that prepares the game for the DLC (which will enable mounted combat)?

Also: Do you know the dates for the patch or DLC?

Just downloaded the beta patch, and now I have mounted combat.

Just felt like updating.

Mounted combat has been available for a while to pc in 1.6 beta, a week maybe. Horse archery is the best bet- hopefully they will refine it because the horse cannot engage enemies competently unless they are in a 90 deg fov in the front, beyound that its iffy and your camera can interfere.

I havent tried 2 handers since i dont touch them, but it should be easier to use them with the longer reach.

Signs point to that being fully released way before dawnguard.

Dont roll back to 1.5 from this beta, i did it last weekend and it thoroughly broke skyrim, had to wipe and reinstall. We ride this beta through!

I WAS ACTUALLY ABLE TO DOWNLOAD the patch yesterday and the mounted combat is already working for me.

Nevermind my post - I didn't even know about the beta!

Can you even do archery in 3rd person? I don't see how it can be done with any accuracy.

You have to use the crosshair- your arrows are RIGHT on the crosshair while on horseback- i usually play without crosshair- you NEED crosshair for mounted archery though unless you are hunting giants, other than the the camera center/archer center is not aligned/intuitive enough.

I think ive lost 4 horses since horse
Archery came into play- but that may be because of the monster mod too
Point is- im riding a horse now- because i can be a horse archer. Im glad it is coming out
