When I played Oblivion, I decided that I wanted to be "strong" before I started the General Campaign. I've always hated the idea that a pup could be/should be called on to save the world. I figured being Arch Mage made sense when it came time to save the world. So I held off until I was there. The problem with that approach was that by the time I finished all those quests and gained that position, everything had leveled so much that it was a chore to do anything!!!! I really hated closing a gate because it took soooooooooooooo long and it was sooooooooooooooooooo repetitive. I got so sick of it that I cheated every Oblivion gate. I just set the cheat, flew to the top, insta-killed where possible etc just to get through the nightmare that was another gate. Ruined the game for me.

So, here I am in Skyrim and I decided to play a mage. So of course I go to the college straight-away and I've gotten so hooked on the quests there that I'm level 25 and haven't really started the main quests. It suddenly hit me that I may be making the same mistake that I made in Oblivion. Does anyone have a clue? Am I in for that nightmare again?

Depending on your skills and perks chosen you can become really powerful at higher levels. Of course foes level with you, but generally speaking it is fun to play at higher levels.

Your foes level, but less noticably then they did in Oblivion. Meaning that some parts may be harder, but overal you should be able to handle most things a lot easier then on lower levels.

Not if you are properly developing you character.

main quest here is nothing like oblivion.....

Play how you wish, choose the perks that best fit your mage this game is fun at high level, I am level forty six and its still fun. I have yet to touch the main quest from what I understand there is nothing as mine numbingly asinine as the horribly atrocious Oblivion Gates. They did have potential but it was just another copy pasted mess but that was the story of Oblivion copy and pasted.

Interestingly appropriate faux paus?! mine numbingly ... that was Oblivion indeed.

Thanks all for the responses. I was getting scared there. Because I did notice that I was having a lot of fun doing those quests and I didn't want to quit just to run do the main story.

Always an interesting response. What is properly developing your character? I'm developing the character I want to play. Sounds ominous for me because I can definitely improperly develop a character !

I dod enjoy Oblivion, really I did. It did get old after a while only because of the horrid level scaling and the terribke copy and pasted landscapes, I was thrilled when I did not have to go in anymore Oblivion Gates.
