Possible Bad Side Effect of Super Enchanting

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:19 pm

For fun I used the restoration loop to make a powerful fortify enchanting potion. I then used the potion to make a powerful sword. I enchanted the sword with Flaming Soul Trap and Fear. The fear will effect up to level 11K+ and the soul trap will work for about 50K seconds. The problem occurred after, for the fun of it, I attacked the residents of the Ragged Flagon. While I couldn't kill them as they are all essential I did make them flee in fear. I left the Flagon and continued on my adventures. The next time I used the sword (about an hour later) the enchantments didn't work. I get a message stating the sword is out of charges, but the bar is full and I do not get the option to recharge it. The only thing I can think of is that as long as the fear effect is working the sword will not. Anyone else have a similar problem?

You know, that may be the case. I've never Resto Looped anything to that degree, but I've gotten the message "X resisted Soul Trap" while the Soul Trap effect was still on them.

Same, I've never blasted my gear with enchantments like that. I would imagine just use the Wait thing and wait for like a week or so in-game time.

It was a one time thing to see what I could do. I picked the enchantments I did so it wouldn't be too much - Fear affecting any level not be game breaking and Flaming Soul Trap at this level still does only 12 fire damage. I imagined the sword radiating fear when unsheathed. Those around it could tell it would devour their soul.

I did the math and my character will have to wait 11 game days for the Soul Trap effect to wear off. The Fear, though it effects 11K+, only lasts 30 seconds. The Soul Trap is the problem.

If I did similar again, I would do it for only one character specific item (like a shield for a character that only used a shield for armor or gauntlets/gloves for an unarmed character) and it wouldn't be so rediculous. For example, the gauntlets of the Pugilist I made would do comparable damage to an enchanted weapon I could buy or find at the same level. I do not want to play as god. It gets boring fast.

I've played around with other weapons with extremely long duration to an effect (fear, soul trap, paralysis, etc.) Everyone of them fail after about 20 swings. With all I received the insufficient charge message, but I cannot recharge them. It doesn't matter if the target dies or not. Weapons with excessively high damage (Fire, Frost, Lightning) are fine, but boring. One hit kills are dull and really make it hard to level up the corresponding skill.

Yeah, it took a loooong time to max 1H on my Assassin chick because of her backstabs.

I tend to try and stay away from length of effect super enchantments. They really do tend to screw up the mechanics. The only time I don't get a repercussion is with poisons. Slip a poison into the target's pocket? BAAAAAAAM wiped out with a poison so deadly it would wipe out Adluin if he had pockets to place it in. But really the restoration loop should only be used if you wish to recreate god mode. I for one enjoy being a godly beast capable of wiping out ancient dragons with a single punch! Also being able to sneak around without effort? I'm swimming in the gold here. Then I decided to upgrade lydia with an 841 damage volunrud hammer. And I had NO perks in the two handed or one handed tree. Pure enhancement!
