Multiple Houses, Do you Regret It?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 8:11 am

Last night I was counting some items I have been collecting as once I have enough I can do something else. Anyway, I know I have 4 of them, but I have only found 3. I have all the houses in the game and it is real pain to go to each of them to try and find where I put the 4th one. I still have not found the 4th one. I now wish I had only one home, or at least had not decorated the other ones so I would not store stuff in them. It seem that each time I got a house, I would dump whatever I had extra in my inventory in the new house and then go on.

It got me to thinking, for those who have more than one house, do you regret it and if so, why?

I tend to move if I buy a new house, use my fortify carry weight potions, and move EVERYTHING from said old house, to said new house. Along with my wife.

I have a few homes on a couple of my characters. I do always designate one house as my "prime" house and it contains all the gear I want to store. The other houses I buy and dress for something to spend the gold on.

I've learned from past Bethesda games to keep all of my important items in one location. I never spread them out. If I end up with multiple houses the only thing I add to the other ones would be my own personal touches. Extra books, armor pieces, misc relics, ect. Mostly junk that has no real use but makes the house my own. It's just too easy to misplace things if you start putting important items in all the different homes.

I currently only own Breezehome and Vlindrel Hall, and I use them for different things: Breezehome is next to a fully equiped blacksmith, so I store all my smithing equipment and materials there, a long with most of my gems and dragon stuff. In the meantime I moved my stash of weapons and useful equipment Vlindrel Hall, which comes with far more storage and an Arcane Enchanter, so that is now my 'real' home, until some day I'll buy Hjerim. So essentially, Vlindrel Hall is my main home, and Breezehome is my base for smithing and storing.

Naw, not really. Actually only one of my characters has bothered to buy more than one house, and each has its own speciality for storage, so I know where to go to find a certain item. It's not buying the place that's the problem, it's how you organize your chests. (As Hugh Hefner said about the Playboy Mansion.)

I try to only buy 1 (maybe 2) house(s) per character as it just seems right that way.

I did make that mistake in Oblivion though on my very first playthrough and it was a pain in the [censored] trying to find where I put the sigil stones when I wanted to use it to create a new weapon

On my current character I own Proudspire Manor and for a house in the country I will make a new house to place in Falkreath

Hmm, I do somewhat regret it, would be nice if I could centralize all my "operations". I recently cleared out the Dark Brotherhood hideout and using it as my own. Downside: there is no formal claim. No way to properly redecorate, stuffing items near crafting sites in the cave (and you got almost all, except for a proper kitchen), no bookshelfs and no... list could be bigger. Point being, its a "cave of operations" like batman had his batcave. Yet I cant drag my housecarls to a single location and have them stay there by saying "this is my new home" nor do I have the ability to sell all the other houses. Also, one might travel a lot back and forth between homes simply because of item storage (though centralizing that can be done easily, but would take out the "need" for more than one home).

I am happy to have more than one home for the two characters I have in the game.

I use Breezehome to store all of my ingots, leather and armor making supplies since its close to the blacksmith.

Since I am Archmage of the college, I keep/store all of my ingredients for alchemy and soul gems for enchanting.

I use Honeyside to keep jewels and misc stolen items to sell since its in Riften.

My wife lives at my "home" in Proudspire Manor that I just have decorated with misc. things.

Another game I play with a different character, I use Breezehome for the same thing - smithing supplies. But since this game isnt bugged like the one I mentioned above (where I am unable to buy Vlindrel or Hjerim), I use Hjerim as my main residence (weapons, cool armor, etc.) and when I get to level 20, I'll buy Vlindrel, move my wife there and fancy it up a bit.

Just designate a house for whatever and you should be fine.

I use Breezehome exclusively. All other house are as bought and upgrade because I can. Not like there is much else to spend on.

I would like the choice to be able to send my thralls to any of my houses...and to ditch the beefcake in the Dwemer one (okay, there is something to be said about Lydia and little Jardi, but I can't picture what's his name doing housework or knocking up a pot of saute'd skeever with grilled leek sauce for me after a day's dragon slaying).

The other 'nice thing' for the houses would be to return to the ability to browse individual item types in the containers.

As far as the topic of multiple houses is concerned, meh, I operate out of Whiterun, and use Solitude a bit, but most of the other towns are dungholes which don't appeal to me.

All my important stuff (daedra hearts, best armour) is stored in Breezehome, the rest are just full of random weapons and armour sets that I may want to pick up and swap for whatever I'm using when I'm there.

Only reason i have more then 1 home are the frikkin bookshelves and weapon racks won't work in Breezehome or Honeyside. Luckily everything works in Proudspire, so I slowly moved all my stuff there.

Yeah, i dunno, I just sold -everything- that i didnt need, and was lugging around 150 pounds of alchemy ingredients.... i had lots of fortify carry weight potions, so yeah...just used those like an addict. lol. When I started getting 200 pounds of ingredients, i decided it was time to move into breezehome....and kill that first dragon. That dragon is no joke at level 45. Plus you get daedric weapons from the jarl! O_O

I have multiple houses as well but I tend to store items in one home only and still misplace things all the time haha. Anyway, I have a feeling Bethesda will release house DLCs in the future so I don't get to carried away with the decorating the homes I already own.

I bought Breezehome pretty quickly because I had too many dragon bones and dragon scales to cart around, and my pack mule ... er... Lydia was starting to complain (as in rejecting more load). I was disappointed that it only had an alchemy lab because I wanted an enchanter, and didn't want to have to hoof it up to Dragonsreach. So later I got Honeyside because of the enchanter. I almost was going to get Hjerim...... spoiler: but that quest and having killed the daughter of my next door neighbors put the kabosh on that. And I didn't like Solitude being in Imperial territory, And I hate Markarth.

As my GF can attest, I tend to drop things as I walk through a place not really thinking about it. I can't find my keys most days in the one house I do own in the real world.

I honestly wish there were more houses in the game. I'd love to live in Falkreath. But, I do regret buying Hjerim. It never felt like a home, knowing what when on there and all. And, for some reason, I can't become Thane in Riften, so I guess I won't get to buy a house there either.

I do somewhat regret buying 3 of them so far. they are all far apart too and now I can't remember where all my stuff is.. especially my ingredients. Ah well once the CK comes out I will build the house of my dreams and move it all into one place.
