Just lost two characters :S

So I recently made two new characters, totalling three characters altogether. I switched save file today to a different character and the game has overwritten one of my character saves, I didn't notice until it was too late and the game had autosaved over that character as well. I decided to then start playing as my first character, to then be horrified by the fact that the game had overwritten my other character when I loaded that game. I'm glad I still have my original character, but this bug has to be fixed by Bethesda; and before you tell me to save manually because autosaves will be overwritten, I had saved manually, the game still deleted it to save my character over it the second I loaded.

I read someone else's post that this had happened to when Skyrim first came out, I never thought it would happen to me. :S

I've made that mistake a couple times. It was a result of relying on Quicksave as my main file, and I'm a compulsive quicksaver.

Ouch, sorry to hear.

Best advice is to always back up your saves when creating a new character, especially easy on PC... but not much harder on consoles.

The game should never save over a non-autosave automatically. When it saves automatically it will always be called "autosave". If not it is a very serious bug, but I never heard of it before.

Never rely on autosaves. Luckily, the first time I played Fallout 3 (then New Vegas, then Skyrim) I started making saves in case I made a mistake. Sort of like a Choose Your Own Adventure take on playing the game. And I still do because of the bugs.

Now's a good time to learn to get in the habit of making a hard save every now and then. I turned off the quicksave on my game because it made loading times longer as I continued to play the same character.

But I do curse a blue streak a little more often.
