what perks to increase?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 6:32 am

i have 14 unused skill points right now, i'm a mage level 32 level 70ish destruction, level 100 conjuration, level 40ish restoration, level 80ish smithing.

i followed this build: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7nM6yRnipw

i'm a high elf and i followed a build that increases certain perks, so i have the flame destruction tree but not the shock or ice. i compensate for my inability to kill fire monsters by conjuring ice and storm atronachs. I followed the above build which says to stop putting points into magicka after 16 since im gonna make dragon plate armor with enchantments that compensate for my low mana. the rest of my points are going into stamina and health.

my question is, what should i focus on putting my perk points into, should i level up my other skills like heavy armor, one handed, marksman, etc.?

the above link says all the important perks in destruction, conjuration and restoration. I'm not even sure if i should level up the other skills, like the ones i listed above, and even if i should level up those other skills, what perks should i increase, and what perks shouldnt i increase. I know i sound paranoid but i want to know what good perks to increase so that i wont regret it later.

I am of the opinion that it's no fun to follow someone else's build or playstyle. I would put them into something you think is fun.

Meh, I'm not going to watch the video, but if you are going full plate with max magicka reduction enchants, it probably doesn't matter too much where you put your other perks.

Same here. Unless you can forge Steel Knuckles, then I can't imagine why you'd specialize in that. If anything, Alchemy is right up your alley.

The main problem is that there is zero point in trying to powergame in TES, all that happens is you make the game too easy for yourself. The way to play these games IMO is to come up with a character archetype that fits into the lore, for the purposes of restricting how powerful you become.

If you are going for 100% Enchanting with perks right up the middle, and 100% Smithing, and then enchant your heavy armor so that spells cost you nothing, you are aiming to just hit the armor cap of 567 by using potions so that you spend the minimum Smithing perks. You don't even need to get up to Dragon armor. You have low Magicka and loads of Health. Then you could get lots of Destruction damage perks, perma-stun everything, have two Dremora lords on top of that, and nothing will stand before you. Then what? You don't win anything.

It is best IMO to conceive of your character as a character, take what that character would take, and if the game is difficult, that makes it more fun and last longer.

His point is, that even on that difficulty level you're not going to struggle at all if you use smithing and enchanting the way you're planning. So, really...it doesn't matter what your other points are.

I sense sarcasm. =p
And if you are being sarcastic, then I'm gonna have to say that pickpocketing is actually very fun and useful. You have to praise the ability to steal someone's clothes right off their back without them noticing. =3

The first perk, the one that increases damage or armor. If you plan to wear legendary daedric though you don't need the armor perks since you'll prolly hit the cap anyway.
For archery, eagle eye is also very nice. For one-handed, just the first perk maxed is all you really need unless you really need a boost in your power attack damage.

Lockpicking is useless. Picking locks is so easy. Even if it's hard at first you'll get the hang of it later. I wish they had a misc skill tree is instead of lockpicking.
