Interesting Archetypes in Skyrim

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:51 am

After playing through a few characters, the normal Archetypes of mage, assassin or warrior doesn't seem too appealing anymore.
Does anyone have any good ideas for an interesting character?

For example -
1. A Khajiit that can only use their fists to kill
2. A pure necomancer that can only utilise dead bodies to fight for them
3. A support type character that will get a companion and make him/her fight everything while you heal and support him (seems boring)
4. A character that pickpockets poisons onto other people.

That's all I can think of. Discuss more playstyles.

1. Plausible, I've done it myself, despite the H2H animations becoming redundant.
2. Hmm, not sure, but interesting path to take.
3. I'm thinking about doing something like this. It would've been nice to at least have two companions at once.
4. Doable, but it takes time to unlock that perk.

There aren't any besides pacifist, and a pure assassin on master (100 health and no armor perks get caught you die), but even that isn't really much fun. Best way to play skyrim is to just play on adept and turn off the hud, then go splorin'

Until followers are finally fixed and level with you I can't see any build based around supporting another character being at all viable.

I've got an Archer Assassin.

Sneak, Archery, Light Armor, and Desto for traps when I need them. I use Aura Whisper and Throw Voice more with this build than any other one.

Because Archery was just omg/why did I do this/super great

I made a straight dagger and sword Assassin.

Sneak, One Handed, Light Armor, and Illusion.

Both builds use enchants for paralyze, and speechcraft for bribery.

My favorite build is my heavy armored Necromancer that swings a big slow axe and wears a cloth hood.

Conjuration for bound axe, dead thrall. Heavy Armor to reduce weight and increase speed. Two handed, with axe perk. Illusion for frenzy on my raised corpses.

....

Consequently, my berserker 2H'd orc and High Elf Necromancer spend hours trying to hit bunnies with those giant slow weapons.

One of these days!

1) The Ranger. Bows, Light Armor, 2 Handed Swords, Alchemy, Sneaking. Use the Conjure Familiar spell and live in the wilds. Use shouts that make animals flee, hunt them for food, protect nature. Explore Blackreach!

2) The Paladin. Dawnbreaker, Heavyarmor, Restoration (Minimum skills). Go to every single Undead/Vampire/Daedric dungeon and use Bane of the Undead/Dawnbreaker to utterly smite the evils that lurk within. Protect the people and serve the Gods. Make sure to pray to an Altar before heading out to do battle.

A pure Necromancer is possible. Choose the Ritual Stone as soon as possible, and make sure you have some summonable creatures as a back-up for when there are no bodies around.

I created a Breton Necromancer last week, and played him through to the end of Bleak Falls Barrow. Once inside, Using Raise Zombie, I was able to literally move from fallen body to fallen body over and over, from the

fallen bandit first entering the Barrow, to Skeevers, to Draugrs. Even the Giant Spider could be zombified. Granted he couldn't leave the room because he couldn't fit through the doorways...
It also raises your magic skill in that discipline pretty quickly.

If you take a follower with you to kill the first enemy you encounter, you can pretty much chain raising zombies one after another without ever having to raise a sword or use a spell. It's tricky, but kinda fun... :)

I'm doing a no sneak/crouch, no archery spellsword on expert, and doing the DB questline & Daedric artefacts. I use a bow for distraction and ice spike for ranged.

Haven't done this yet, but I'm planning an Orcish Deathdealer. Probably Sneak, One-handed (dual-wield daggers for assassinations, war axes for shredding in melee), Light Armor, and Enchanting (I'd conceptualize it that he's "kitting out" his weapons).

An alternative route would be to make him less focused on sneak, but still have the assassin aspect - just having a big ol' warhammer or battle axe to fall back on.

Until followers are finally fixed and level with you I can't see any build based around supporting another character being at all viable.

Do you have a source for your statement?

Here's what UESPwiki says about that:

A follower's level can continue to increase along with the player's level, whether they travel with you or not. However, each follower has a maximum level (which varies for each follower). Also, each follower has a specific set of favored skills. Regardless of how often a follower uses a skill, they do not get better at it, as a player does by continuous use of a particular skill. For example, trying to force Brelyna Maryon to be a sword wielding, shield bashing warrior will not work, she will always be more adept to using magic.

If you have an attachment to a certain follower and wish to continue to use him or her after he or she has become obsolete, you can update his or her stats by dismissing the companion, then opening the http://www.gamesas.com/wiki/Skyrim:Console, clicking the follower in question, typing "disable" and then typing "enable" without the quotation marks, closing the console, then ask them to rejoin. The follower's inventory will remain unaffected, but his or her stats will all be updated to match the player's current level.

A Google Docs spreadsheet of the maximum levels and skill ratings at that level for all followers is available here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aly8njaU3H1adGJYTlJaUnRxRUN2RnM5MkxPaU1mQkE. The second sheet shows a sample of the stat progression for one particular follower, http://www.gamesas.com/wiki/Skyrim:Faendal, and the formulas used to calculate his health & stamina. NOTE: The "class" column is simply an attempt to categorize each NPC with a recognizable identifier, and does not reflect any internal game data.

E

PS: Obviously, some of that pertains to PC players working through the console, but overall, followers level up with you till they reach their limit.
