A positive thread....

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:44 am

As you can see from the title this thread is about positive opinions on Skyrim. While I am fine with some criticism It seems to me there are to many negative threads. So I am going to try and mix it up a little. So what do you like about Skyrim and why? I personally like how it is not silly light tone like Oblivion and that the dungeons and environment are overall much better. You?

For me, I'd have to say the world. There are some aspects to it that I'm not the happiest about, but overall it is among the most spectacular game worlds I've ever seen.

That difficulty is significantly better from previous titles (although health inflation is still a problem at higher settings,) unless I break the system there's always something that can kill me if I try to just smash my way through it.

I noticed that as well. Despite Regenerating health Skyrim seems to be harder than Oblivion even on easy.

I have to say that I have less issues with this game than I did with previous games. The things I do have issue with are minor and easily modded in, or out.

However, overall, this is a great game and I am looking forward to my next 100 hours. The first 100 hours were a blast!!!

As for what I like? Vsions owned tail on the races, the Dunmer look like a beautiful cross between every interation of that race since Arena, Argonians have never looked better, and sixy Orcs are possible.

It's beautiful and it's fun. And I'm one of the few people who actually likes the game mechanics and perk system.

And considering the sheer volume of them, I respect all the work that went into hand designing each dungeon. Some are a bit meh, but some are awesome.

And I like the Dwemer ruins - they present something a bit different.

I can slag off loads about this game like anyone can, but you have to admire the amount of work that has gone into it. You have to thank Bethesda for making the effort, even if the end result doesn't please everyone.

Well...
  • Races (except for Bretons, who are now virtualy impossible to tell from Imperials) look amazing
  • Skyrim, as a world, trumps Vvardenfell and Cyrodiil
  • Graphics... I guess
  • Dragons?
As for the cons... oh wait this is a "positive thread" (shuffles off into sunset)

I love it, too!

But this is what I mean about boring.

How about, "yes, we love it, and here's why?"

I'll say that I love how they took everything that used to be dealt with in numbers, text, menus and charts and put it all on the screen as real- time experiences it's closer to a pure "role play" than a "role playing game."

I like that I can do anything I want, even if it's nothing at all. It's really satisfying to sit at The Winking Skeever with a follower relaxing and listening to songs.

I like still finding new locations and things to do after playing over 200 hours with my main character.

I like that I'm finding stuff my main character hasn't run across with a character that has half the playing time.

I like that the world just keeps going no matter what I'm doing. It's very cool to be going about my business and come across a group of bandits battling a mage in the middle of the snow. Or right as I'm nearing a city, the guards/citizens are finishing off a dragon and I swoop in to absorb its soul and take its bones.

I don't understand why people criticised Skyrim graphics. My guess is that some people confuse artistic beauty with expensive pixel shaders. World building is also awesome. Trully this is the strong point of the Elderscrolls series. Gameplay has also improved a lot since Fallout 3. I only wished there was more high profile monsters.

Skyrim is a curious game. In some aspects it deserves the title of game of the year and has beaten every one of it's predecessors while in others aspects it has achieved a new low, but since this is a positive thread...
